11 May So yesterday morning I went to the supermarket to buy more Snapple, because I am getting low. Shit, do you know how much Snapple costs when it's not on sale? 99¢! I know that I sell them for $2, but 100% profit just is not enough. Not enough, I tell you! But the Arizona Iced Tea was on sale for 50¢, so they're getting that. Someday, ah someday there will be another sale on Snapple, but until then, my patrons will just have to make do with the Arizona.
Meatballs. The meatballs were a week ago yesterday, so I went to the deli in fear and trepidation, thinking that maybe it was a weekly thing...and it was! Meatballs! Blessed meatballs! And spaghetti as well, which made the meatballs make a little more sense. I guess last week they had run out of the spaghetti. I got some, which was a mistake. It was fine, but the meatballs alone are a perfect meal, lukewarm spaghetti doesn't improve matters. When I got to the cashier, I enthused about the meatball situation and asked if it was every Tuesday, and was told that...it was only sometimes on Tuesdays. Teases. I understand that the lighting guy for the new show spent the day yesterday with food poisoning, vomiting into a bucket all during their tech. And what did he eat? The chicken and broccoli that I usually have! I doubt that it would have made me sick, since I have it all the time, but I did feel that possibly those meatballs saved me!
Ever since Melissa was here last week, I've been crazy to go to the Buttercup Bake Shop. And yes, I know that my life is all about the cupcakes these days, but I really wanted to try theirs. It's not that far away from my job, so I made my way over in my hour break before going to Love Creek. I got two cupcakes, both vanilla, one with chocolate frosting, one with buttercream. Now, Melissa went on and on about the cupcakes, that the cake was as delicious as the frosting, that I would see God, etc. I ate the chocolate frosted one first, and it was...okay. The frosting was really good, but the cake was a little dry and bland. It was worth eating, but not worth going out of my way for. Later that night, I had the other one, and it was...transcendent. It was the most delicious thing I have ever eaten. Clearly, freshness makes a big fat difference at the Buttercup Bake Shop! I'm definitely going back. Maybe today!
Closing night for Orestes last night, and they had 31 people! 31 people, and do you know what I sold for concessions? One water and one cupcake. Cheap student fuckers. The 10p show had 16 people and I sold $11 worth of stuff. It just goes to show, you never can tell. Oblivious ended up having an audience of 27 in two days. This is for a 10p, one woman show that some of them have seen before. I certainly don't know 27 people who would leave their houses at 10p to come see me in a half hour one-act for $5. I don't think I know 7 people who would do that, let alone 27!
I have the next two nights off, and you know what that means? I don't have to make any cupcakes! Woo hoo! God, I'd love to stay home tonight and tomorrow, but I have to go see Kirsten in Arms and the Man and Mark in Hamlet. Sigh. I know too many actors.
