30 March Yesterday morning I was running so late that I took a cab to work, and it worked this time! I was not late! It helps, I suppose, that St. Patrick's Day is only once a year.
After work was more work, opening night of one-acts. Surprisingly, there are two real good versions of two real old Love Creek chestnuts in the evening. It's hard to be even remotely interesting in Teasers or Power and the Glory after they have been done to the ultimate power so many times in the past, but in listening through the door, they sounded not only credible, but kind of special. Power and the Glory has two of my favourite lines that Le ever wrote, "When men are looking up women's skirts, their eyes are like that of an eagle", and "See my na-na! See my na-na and shake with desire!" and once you've heard CaSandra Brooks or Merry Beamer say those lines, it's hard to hear anyone else do them and not think that it's not good enough.
Afterwards, we had our first rehearsal in the space, which we have to dress up like a junk shop, so I volunteered to bring in lots of my own personal junk, of which I have plenty. They need New-Age stuff, too, so I'm bringing in those dopey Sark books that I bought at a vulnerable moment and then never even glanced at. I also volunteered to do Rachel's makeup, as she is supposed to have a birthmark on her face, and I don't trust anyone to do deformity makeup who isn't me. Also, it's fun! I get a charge out of it. When I went home, though, I couldn't find my bruise kit, so I'm either going to have to go downtown and find another somehow, or make do with various lipsticks and so on. As far as the actual rehearsal went, I knew all my lines and didn't fuck up, which is all one could ask, really.
