(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

23 June

Favourite moment at work yesterday:

A guy comes into the lobby, I greet him, and he, trying to be charming, says "Thanks for coming to work today!" Then he walks over to the girls in the box office and says, "Ladies, thanks for being so beautiful! And for coming to work!" Ahem. Perhaps my beauty was so startling, he couldn't thank me for it. I'm sure that was it.

Then he went to the store and got them coffees. I am assuming that he was too shy to offer me anything what with the being all blinded by my beauty and all.

So last night was my opening night.

The 7p show had an audience (hooray!), and so did we (double hooray!), and the second it started they started to laugh and that roller coaster started and woo-hoo! It was fucking brilliant.

Every line that I begged Henry to say, he said. Every moment that I begged Sheera to have energy during, were energetic. It was like a magic trick. It sucked so badly on Monday, it is a freaking miracle.

I was so completely wired before the show, I was literally bouncing off the walls. And I didn't really realize it until Andrew said to me, "Um, have you had too much coffee?" I went home after the show and literally collapsed.

So, there's been shakeups in the cast for the August show.

Nancy and Le have been thinking about this show for about a decade, I know it was a one woman show at least five years ago, because Mom did some translations for it back then, and now we are finally going to do it, in a big production in an Off-Broadway theatre that might get press response, and she gets a job in a show in Florida.

What are you going to do? It's paying work, and turning down paying work for the prospect of a show getting attention in New York is kind of a crap-shoot. No-one can blame her for making the decision that she made, but it's a real shame that she had to make it.

Le offered it to a couple of people who aren't availible, and then he thought of Kirsten, already in the show in a smaller role. All of us smacked ourselves on the heads for not thinking of her before! She's a little freaked out, of course, because she went from a small support to a big fat lead. Of an historical figure. Who has to paint onstage and speak French. Oy!

Le asked me about Lauren to replace Kirsten, and I said that I couldn't recommend her higher, both as a good actress and a nice person to have around. She takes notes, learns her lines, comes up with stuff on her own, and has a good attitude to boot! I hope he casts her.

Dig this that went out over the LCP email, a note from one of my cast members that Le sent out to the company, saying that mostly all he hears is complaints and it was nice to get such a positive note for once:

"I just wanted to take a moment to write you about my experience working on Snafu. First of all, thanks for writing such a fun piece. We're all having such a great time with it. But the real reason for my note is to mention about my experience working with Kymm Zuckert on it. I cannot speak highly enough about Kymm. She has such incredible vision, is so direct and creates such a professional environment to work. It has been such a great experience.

"I love her no-nonsense and professional style. But she not only creates an environment that is professional and disciplined, but she makes everyone feel as though they can freely experiment and contribute. That's not to say that she always accepts the actors' choices, but she is so supportive and really listens to everyone. So I just wanted to thank you.

"Thank you for the great opportunity. I'm sure you already know all this about Kymm. But I just wanted you to know how much I think of her and how much I've enjoyed this experience."

Phew! How about that, huh? The first thing I thought was about the fact that I give actors room to grow and make their own choices, which is "I do not! I make actors do exactly what is in my head and micro-manage them down to the eyelash!" so I'm not certain where whomever wrote that got that idea, but it sure is nice to be appreciated. I wonder who wrote it?

Today's horoscope:
Your creative side is in full bloom, so push the organizational stuff to the side and let your ideas flower. Don't worry, the down-and-dirty details will still be there when you come back to deal with them.
