18 June This morning I slept in. Ahh... It was only until 11a, because there was a matinee today, but it was something. When you work seven days, usually two jobs a day, and never get a day off ever ever ever (have I mentioned that before? I really do need to nail myself up on that cross), having even part of a day off feels like a vacation.
Finally it's slowing down at work. The show is nearly sold out for the run, which is frankly a relief all around. As I was about to leave yesterday, the actress in the one-woman show upstairs gave me a bouquet of flowers. She had actually bought them for me at the beginning of the week, but she didn't realize that I leave at 6p, so she didn't get a chance to give them to me until now. They are very pretty, and not very dead at all. Mostly quite alive! She gave them to me, because when she was getting enough flowers at the theatre to fill a funeral home, I was the one who brought them upstairs and got all allergic and asthmatic from having them by me all day. She got me roses, though, and they aren't all pollen-y. Very sweet.
Merry came to the theatre to see the space that she will be directing in in August, which was great, because that meant that I could go over all of the postcard stuff that I needed from her. I finally had emailed Kirsten with all of the things that should be changed in the postcard for our show, some of which is mandated by the theatre, and some are because the postcard needs to sell the show to people who aren't us. We aren't used to that. I really do need to talk to Le about the stuff I talked to the Big Boss (Female Version) last week. The great thing about my being liaison is that I am in charge of getting things done. The bad thing about being liaison is that if I don't get things done, I get the hairy eyeball, which is extremely hairy indeed.
I had rehearsal at 8p, so I didn't go to the show, and we continued working through the play with my meticulous freaking line-by-line notes that the actors actually love. This is because it's everyone's first show with me and they aren't sick of me yet. I have decided that I am madly in love with Lauren, that she will be a go-to actress for me in the future. She's just so quick and smart and takes my notes and comes up with great stuff on her own, which is pretty difficult with me, since I tend to tell actors what to do much faster than they can come up with their own ideas. Sheera hilariously told me that she couldn't be at rehearsal on Monday because she was rehearsing her other play, you know, the one that opens in three freaking weeks. They had to rearrange their rehearsal schedule without her for our performances and tech, but her director didn't think that I would need her the rehearsal before tech. It is to laugh. I'll bet if her show was first and I insisted on having her the day before her tech she'd find out exactly how necessary that rehearsal is. She is rehearsing from 7-10p. I told her to leave at 9p, since that is when we'll be able to get into the space anyway, and that she was welcome to tell her other director that I am the biggest bitch ever to walk the face of the earth, but she will be rehearsing with me on Monday come hell or high water.
