17 June Yesterday was another crazy day round the ol' day job. Still people crawling out of the woodwork to get tickets for this Show With the Great Times Review. I'll bet we'll be sold out for the run by Friday. It could easily sell out much longer than that, but this is a limited run due to the fact that another show is coming in right behind it, not to mention the British cast will have visa and Equity problems. So no extension, get your tickets now. I am not going to be able to see it until the closing week, myself. I assume that I'll be hanging from the rafters or some such.
Then I went to the opening night of our show, which was just the most unprofessional thing that I have ever seen. Not the show itself, but the way everyone was before the show. I was about ready to start it, when I asked Paul, "Who is running your lights?" "I don't know, nobody's in the booth." "Who ran them at your tech?" "Nobody." Ah, how very interesting. So I went backstage to give them places, and asked Shawn how he was planning on getting his stage lit, and he said that he thought he might do it himself before he went onstage, and I told him places and he told me that he wasn't ready yet and I told him that I didn't care. Then I went out to the actors who were on the stage and told them that they were at places whenever Shawn deigned to wander out and start the show, and I left and shut the door. I have a strong feeling that this one is going to be a doozy.
Because it was my last time that I was able to, I went down and watched Troilus again. I saw about three quarters of each act, which is certainly more than enough. It rained before the show, but they didn't cancel. It rained a bit during the show as well, but not too much, and people just opened their umbrellas and waited for it to be over. We closed our eyes and thought of England. I thought that Mark was wonderful, of course, but I really enjoyed the fact that the two women next to me were enjoying him so much, laughing at everything he said, really perking up when he came onstage. I told him that afterwards, but since it's outdoors it's hard to hear an audience member chuckling, let alone the fact that he's not wearing his glasses and therefor cannot see an audience member chuckling, he did not believe me. I'm glad I got to see it again, but three times is plenty enough. If I were going to see it again, it would only be in some real-life TiVo situation where I can fast forward through all the boring bits and only watch my favourite scenes. Not only Mark's scenes, may I add! But mostly.
