12 June I am absolutely dying of the heat, this is completely ridiculous.
So yesterday I had planned my rehearsal to be between the shows so that I could work the matinee, but there was no point in doing so, because I only sold one water! In this heat! And it was to Le! I figured out why, it's because it's one-acts and people who came out during the intermission didn't want to buy anything when they were leaving, and the people who were staying just stayed, but honestly, one water?
After that, we trotted over to Lauren's for the rehearsal, and Phylis was there for the first time since the first readthrough, and I was very pleased to note that she totally learned all of her lines and her cues even though I haven't seen her for weeks. Yay Phylis! I blocked Alan into the bits of the play that were blocked without him, and we both realized that I had never told him that he had to be the bear. Which reminds me, I really must call Ronnie and borrow that bear mask. Alan has to fall and be killed about ten times, not to mention the fact that he has to be a helicopter and a tank and a B-52 and a stealth bomber. And he has to make all of the noises. He's having a hell of a time figuring out how a helicopter will sound. Clearly, this is a very heavy neorealistic drama, can't you tell?
Before the rehearsal ended, the rain started, and by rain I mean gigantic thunderstorm with lightning hitting so close that there was no pause between the lightning and the thunder. I told my "I was almost struck by lightning" story, and everyone was afraid to leave. I had remembered to bring an umbrella from home, but, and this is the best bit, I left it at the theatre! Sixteen blocks away from Lauren's apartment! I sure have timing. On the other hand, walking through an enormous downpour with no umbrella makes everyone who is running trying to keep dry look extremely silly. It's a little water! Look how wet I am!
When I got to the theatre, of course Troilus was cancelled, so they only did two out of their four performances this week. The perils of an outdoor theatre at any time of the year! Of course, with it being canceled, I had to deal with an insane audience woman again, who pushed to the front of my line demanded to see Troilus and, when being told that they were rained out, demanded to know who she could talk to about that. I almost said, "God" but decided to send her downstairs to Jim and let him deal with the fact that this woman wanted to watch three hours of Shakespeare in the pouring rain. Again, Troilus and Cressida is NOT MY SHOW, and their audience needs to BITE MY ASS! On the other hand, my show had a fab alcoholic audience who drank everything that was even the slightest bit cold, and all the red wine too, while they were at it. I made $64, baby! I love this heat wave!
