(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

7 June

Lord is it ever hot! It's like August--it's going to hit 90° today and it's barely June, not even summer yet!

Of course, just a couple of days ago I was shivering in my leather jacket as the rain poured down, so I'm glad it's not that, but can there not be a happy medium? Ever?

One good thing this year is that the allergies haven't been hitting me like they did last year. I should use my eye drops more than I do, but I haven't been wheezing or coughing or having to sleep sitting up, and I've only taken my pills on a couple of days.

Hot, but less pollen. I'll take it.

I haven't written in days, weeks, nearly a month, really. I don't know why, I was busy, yes, but frankly I'm always busy. I haven't even made notes about anything, though my head is full of various things that happened on various days. Just wasn't in the writing zone.

Also, I wasn't bringing my computer in to work, because I had too much else to carry, and somehow I just don't write when I'm home at the end of the day, I haven't even been able to watch shows with plots that I have to pay attention to, just Price is Right and Good Eats and As Time Goes By, shows that I have seen so often that if I zone out, I haven't missed anything.

I may just post this entry and say to hell with the rest of them. Maybe not. There is the Tony entry. There's the Drama Desk awards entry. We'll see when I get home tonight.

I notice in my archives that I didn't write at all last June, but for the Tony entry. Of course there was a broken computer situation, but perhaps it's something in the air. Laziness, like pollen. Hopefully less of it this year, like pollen.

So yesterday three new shows were coming in, so I had to get used to three new lots of people. As a whole, though, I've liked all of the groups from this festival. Mostly, they are so thrilled to be in New York and working and it's quite charming how friendly and enthusiastic everyone is.

Maybe it's because they are all so far from home, so it makes sense to want to bond not only with the other actors in the building, but the staff as well. I'm afraid that I have gotten spoiled myself, so when we get these snotty has-been celebrities (okay, there has only been one of those, but he was a real prick) and stand-off-ish actors too good to talk to the employees of the building, it will be a fresh shock.

Admittedly, that doesn't happen too often, but all in all, the farther they are from home, the chummier they are.

I was able to say goodbye properly to Linda, who did a one-woman show upstairs that just closed. She was really sweet and I really liked her, but I found out yesterday that the woman is completely insane.

She was waiting for the car to take her to the airport, and she was standing at the door weeping, so I ran over to her.

"What's the matter?"
"The car's not here and I'm going to miss the plane!"
"But it's only five minutes late!"
"Yes, but I have to get my set onboard and it took me two hours to get it all on the plane coming over without paying extra, and the traffic is getting worse the later it gets and I'll miss my flight! I have to get home today, I just have to!!"
"But isn't your flight in four hours?"

Actors are racehorses, you cannot make sudden moves around them. Seriously, she was an hysterical, sodden mess. Chris, one of the actors from one of the other shows, and I both just stayed on the pavement with her, alternating soothing and distracting her. Tag-team effort, we got her into the car when it arrived, then collapsed in the lobby.

Of course she made the flight with no problems and in plenty of time. It must be very draining to be the kind of person who borrows trouble. On the other hand, I'm the kind of person who actually misses planes, so I guess it's six of one.

My first blocking rehearsal for Snafu was last night, which was fun. Just Lauren and Sheera were there (this is the case of the five person show with three invisible people, I don't know what I'll do with a full cast!) but we got a good twenty pages done.

Admittedly, there's a great deal of the play driving the invisible car, but I had to keep reminding them to remember to put the car in drive and the steering wheel is attached to the car, you cannot wave it around, and if your foot is not on the pretend gas pedal, then the car isn't going anywhere, and things like that.

Is this my third invisible car play? The Thornton Wilder piece, A Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden, and that awful thing that I did with Omar about five years ago--yeah, third one. And I'm never the one pretend driving the car, because I wouldn't have to be told to be specific!

Years of mime classes as a child, it's a little embarrassing to admit, but by golly I can drive an invisible car!

Today's horoscope:
You've got the kind of work issues that people annoyingly describe as 'opportunities' and/or 'challenges.' The truth is, this could actually end up being to your advantage, especially if you're careful about the details.
