16 April I took my computer to work yesterday, which meant that I could watch DVDs during the show. I finished up with the Farscape disc I had from Netflix, then started watching the Twin Peaks pilot. I haven't watched it in awhile, so it was a combination of familiarity and surprise. Being reminded of things I had forgotten, like Andy crying at the sight of Laura, and Lara Flynn Boyle looking so young and soft and sweet, not all pointy and harsh like she became. Best show ever, man, I'll fight with anyone to the death over that. Will they ever release season two on DVD? Ever? C'mon, David!
The show itself was slow as shit. You always have a second night slump, which is sad if the first night is no great shakes, so after our 10 person opening night, it was a 7 person second night. The box office was low enough that I didn't get paid at all, which made me very glad about my concessions! I made $7, which was pretty grand. Especially compared with bugger-all. The fact that I am actually over $50 in the hole means nothing, this is definitely going to work.
When I got home, I watched that episode of Conan that they shot at my theatre on Monday. It was really funny! Did I forget to tell you about it? I think I forgot to tell you about it. So yeah, Conan and crew were at my theatre on Monday, which was cool, since Monday is the most boringest day at the theatre, and it really livened things up. The entire staff was in a frenzy, and though I like Conan O'Brien, I really don't think he's the kind of person that you frenzy over, though I was completely alone in that opinion. What I was excited about was that it was a bit about learning stage combat and his trainer was B.H. Barry, who was my teacher at Circle approximately 150 years ago. When he came in, I said to him, "You taught me in 1986!" He hugged me and was very sweet, though I'm certain that he felt old as the hills. Conan was very nice and chatted with us in the lobby for awhile, and one of the box office girls got her picture taken with him, which absolutely Made Her Year. They shot it in the big theatre, upstairs at the bar, and in the medium-sized theatre. The bit they shot at the bar, I could hear from my seat in the lobby, so that was interesting to see what they actually were doing! B.H. was very funny, and at the end, when Conan ran through the lobby, you could see my podium! You couldn't see me, because I had purposely stepped out of shot, but you could see where I would have been, had I not moved. Which sounds entirely like, "Then you turn right where the movie theatre used to be, go on past where they're thinking about building that drive-in bank, you can't miss it!"
Why why why is the theme from Flashdance stuck in my head? I don't remember anyone singing it, and yet, and yet. I have been singing it. All. Damn. Day. The worst bit is that I seem to know all of the words. Why am I wasting brain space? I hate this song!
