19 January As I start this entry (God only knows when I will finish it!), it is noon, and Baldrick is sitting elsewhere but on me for the first time since I came home. He has never been this desperate and needy in the fifteen years of his life, earlier this morning he was licking and chewing on my fingers world without end, but finally he has calmed down enough to think that I won't abandon him again anytime soon. He's sitting on the old built-in stove that doesn't work, where Monty always used to love to sit because it is the warmest spot in the house. When Baldrick sat there instead, Monty would sit on the chair by the sink. I look there now, and he's not there. When I got home last night, I was talking to Fran and he said that when Cynthia found Monty she was very upset, and didn't want Bonnie to know, so when he came home that night and saw her in the living room and said "What's wrong?" she answered, "I'll tell you later." And Molly, glanced pointedly at Bonnie and muttered to Fran, "Ead-day at-cay." I could not stop laughing when he told me that. It was good to laugh about something having to do with this sad thing.
So yesterday, did I get to rest after my long trip the day before? Sure didn't! No, yesterday I went to Philadelphia! I had to get up at 8.30a in order to catch the train, or, as I said to every single person I met yesterday including strangers on the street, by my body clock I actually got up at 5.30a! I never stopped talking about it. Never. I'm amazed that I wasn't stabbed to death with the cutlery. I attempted to meet Tracing at Penn Station, but apparently there is a new NJ Transit waiting area that I was not in, but thanks to the magic of cell phones, we found each other and got on the train. We only had to go to Trenton instead of taking the SEPTA into Philly, which was nice, since Corrina picked us up and drove us to the restaurant in the city. And why were we going to Philadelphia? Why because Eliza was in town! We met at a restaurant called Fork that was just swell, and Kate and Elizabeth and two friends of Eliza were there as well. Eliza's friends were very nice, though we must have bored them to tears with all of our journal yapping. It was definitely worth getting up at 5.30a for. Did I mention that I had to get up at 5.30a? Because I did! It was a complicated menu, everything kind of had too many ingredients, but I made a nice brunch out of the side dishes. And there was dessert, too! We all waddled out of that place. O, and Kate gave me my birthday present from when she couldn't come to my party, which was this adorable blown-glass hedgehog. I may have the finest hedgehog collection in the northeast, if not the world! After we ate our own weight in brunch, Eliza and friends went off to the movies and the rest of us went to Kate's house, which is the cutest little house in all the land. We and Holden hung out and played Playstation, something that I have never seen before. I would have liked to have a shot at Paperboy, but there wasn't enough time before Corrina had to get home for the football game. She took us to Trenton and we caught the train home to the city. I had planned on maybe going to Kelly's birthday party, but I was absolutely shattered by the time we got back to the city and all I wanted to do was go home and collapse. So I did.
