(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

22 February

Rehearsing, being annoyed, stuff like that, blah blah blah.

Yesterday we started running the show for the first time, but it wasn't what I would call a proper runthrough, since we stopped several times. At least we did it in the correct order.

On the other hand, our show is 50 minutes long! It's a 22 page play, how the hell can it be 50 minutes long! I have been saying all along that it should be no longer than 30-35 minutes, but it's so physical a show that it runs much longer than a minute a page. Of course, if everyone would pick up their fucking cues, then it would be shorter, but I doubt we could cut more than 5 minutes off the show that way.

Now, with us being so long, I suggested to Moira that we switch the order of the shows, having the other one-act be first because it is shorter, and then we can take an intermission to do our setup, and she agreed, so I asked the other director and left a message with Omar asking him to call me if he had any objections.

He didn't call, so I thought that it was okay, but when I mentioned it today, he said absolutely not. I was annoyed, because he didn't listen to my message--he said that he didn't get it, but I thought that he just listened to part of it (where I talked about something else), then erased it and was annoyed for the whole rehearsal again, though I wasn't so self-indulgent about it as I was last time.

I was still mad when I left rehearsal, but then he called me when I was in the box office, and the second he called, I wasn't mad anymore. He said that he really didn't get a message from me, that he did get a message that was so garbled that he erased it, but he had no idea it was from me. And totally besides that fact, he would never erase a message from me anyway.

So I explained my reasoning behind wanting to switch the order, and he explained his reasoning for not wanting to switch the order, and everything was fine. Amazing how simple communication makes everything alright!

And then he called me around 7.30p from Lancaster, just to tell me that he and his parents had gotten there safely and that he was looking forward to when we go up in March. And that he missed me. And then I felt better.
