(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

7 December

Here it is, the first day of Hollidailies, and I've already blown it.

Well, here's the way I look at it, I am actually updating more regularly from the ghetto internet cafe than I did when I had a computer at home, at least recently, so skipping a day here and there and double-uploading the next day is not nearly as much of a sin as sitting at a computer in my own house and reading other people's entries without writing my own.

So yesterday I got up and packed everything that I needed for my tech, costumes and props and things, and found my knitting bag.

Now, I haven't knat for ages, probably about a year and a half, and the mango orange spiderweb scarf has been 1/3 done that whole time, and I thought hmmm, my job is a perfect place to knit, so I grabbed it and took it with me.

Well! I was sitting there, knitting away, when one of the box office girls walked by me and started gushing about how beautiful it was. I told her that it was the simplest thing in the world to make, and she said, "Do you sell them? I'll bet people would pay $100 for one of these!" And I thought hmmm, that's a thought.

I remembered Jana's, the store in LA where Mom always shops, a little place that's so fashion-forward that anything great that they have there you'll see the stars wearing eight months later, and they sell things by small designers, so maybe I'll see if they want to take five or so of them. If I could sell them for $30 myself, that would pay for the yarn. Not really for my labour, but if I'm just sitting at work making money anyway, it's not as though I'd be knitting instead of working.

I figure no harm trying. And in the meantime, I have Christmas presents to make.

After work, we teched the shows. Startlingly enough, Long Christmas Dinner was as good as it was the day before, linewise. Who expected that? I thought we'd have to run through it badly for it to be good the second time, I didn't expect it to be good right out of the box like that.

Tony teched our shows, and his main note for me was that, in my old age makeup, I had put too much white under my eyes. I answered, "That's not makeup, that's my face!" So yeah, I'll put dark under my eyes. Hey, it's tough being over 80 in two shows when I barely look 30! Shut up, I have flattering lighting near my bathroom mirror at home.

Lullaby went pretty well, though tech-wise it was a little messy. And Kelly wasn't there. This was not news, we knew from the start that she would be out of town and wouldn't home in time for the tech, but it was interesting doing what amounted to a one-woman show for most of the one-act.

As far as the lights and sound went, I didn't keep my mouth shut and talked Pam through it. I think she gets a little scared in the booth, and I know what I want. A ghost light to enter on, not that bright, not that bright, still too bright, yeah, like that, then a blackout, then lights up. That's what I want.

And the music should be playing all the time, it shouldn't pop on during the blackout, play two bars, then fade out, that kind of misses the point of having music to cover the time before the show starts.

When the phone didn't ring, but instead there was a doorbell, I just froze, because it was tech and I'd rather Pam got the cue right than going on and trying to cover, but Lee decided to go on and try to cover. Whatever, the phone rang and I continued.

I only fucked up one line, skipping to the next one, but that was okay except for the fact that Lee was supposed to be on the sofa for that line, so she dove for it like she'd just gone insane. I got the whole monologue out, which made me happy.

Afterwards, Mark's show teched, which I did not stay for, but he called me around midnight and we talked for an hour.

It's weird how when we see each other, he calls me all the time and we talk for an hour at a time, but when we don't, he doesn't. Since this is a seeing each other time, I don't mind, but after the show closes, he's not in anything until February and will we really go through all that time without speaking to each other?

I guess I'll wait and see.

Remember, if anyone who wants a Xmas card from me this year had best send me their address, because remember? No computer means no Xmas card list!

Today's horoscope:
You're intensely focused on something at the moment, and quite unwilling to give up until you have it. Careful, now. Becoming overly interested does qualify as obsession in some circles.

One year ago today:
I went in to buy a hat and spent $118. But there were stripes! And polka-dots! And pompoms! I am not made of stone!
