Today is Omar's 40 birthday. We've been having the countdown to this for months, the things that he was going to change about his life, the things that would be different, the things that would be better. Because when you're 40, you cannot be anything but a grownup.

And are these things different? Are they better? I don't know, but he certainly has made some big steps towards changing his life. I hope he lets me back into it soon. I have presents for him that I bought months ago. Hopefully I'll have a chance to give them to him soon. Maybe for Christmas.

Happy birthday, baby. I miss you.

So yesterday I went to see Human Stain at SAG, which I enjoyed very much.

There's a Secret Surprise that I actually already knew, and it's interesting to watch knowing the Secret all the way through, although I kind of wish that people would keep their fucking stupid mouths shut. Even if it's not supposed to be a Big Secret, why would you not want to see it not knowing? If it's something that isn't supposed to be kept a secret, why not reveal it at the opening of the film, why not put it in the opening credits? Just let me find out during the goddamn film, don't make a point of wrecking it for everyone. Even if knowing doesn't actually wreck the movie, which it did not, why not give the audience the opportunity to discover the story in order?

Anyway, I liked the movie a great deal and thought that the performances were excellent. One think, though, I totally wasn't buying that Nicole Kidman came from a rich background, because no matter what has happened in the twenty years afterwards, she'd still know how to behave in a restaurant.

Every time I turned around, there kept being something I absolutely had to have, until I was certainly glad that I had brought the Radio Flyer. It would have looked silly, trundling home with that red wagon with a small box of sugar sitting all lonely in the exact centre.
