(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

21 November

So the show opened last night and it was much better than it had any right to be!

Actually no, it was just as good as it should have been, considering that I've been whipping those actors like horses up a steep grade for a week, they certainly should have gotten to the top of the damn hill by now. And they certainly weren't as good as they can be, there were still about twenty giant "whose line is it?" pauses, but considering that there were 100 of those pauses on Monday, they had come very far very quickly.

I went into the dressing room after the show and said, "Great show guys, but don't rest on your laurels!! Look at those lines!" and they all chorused, "We won't! We will!" I also said to Rebecca, "See what a difference it makes learning your lines? It means that you actually have a character!"

That sounds like I am being sarcastic, but it's true. She was the least rehearsed of the cast, and she is also extremely overworked and overtired, so she was very behind. She reminds me of me when I was younger, I didn't have to work very hard to be good, so I was very lazy and sometimes would end up having to pull things out of my ass at the last minute.

All I saw were the mistakes, and I even took notes, which I never do during performance, but there were a few things that I didn't want them to do ever again, or that I wanted to reinforce so that they would do it again! But the audience saw a good show. And that's good enough for me.

Besides the show, I went to therapy for the first time this week, and found that I really do need to go twice a week, because only going once meant that I went in, sat down, and yapped for an hour straight without drawing breath, "Blahblahblah show blahblahblah company blahblahblah props blahblahblah tech blahblahblah actors not learning their cues, o, and also blahblahblah Omar!"

Afterwards I went home and made the cake and relaxed and watched TV. God, it was such a treat not to have to be running around finding Coke bottles and so on. I'd rather not have to make the cake either, but at least that I can do at my house.

Opening night means that the director's work is over, it's the actor's show now, and if they don't know their lines or their cues that is their fucking problem. All I have to do is do my lights and sound right.

Four more shows, four more cakes.

Today's horoscope:
Someone is developing a mind of their own. With independence comes increased responsibility. Youngsters leaving the nest should devote their first hours to learning all about flying and foraging.

One year ago today:
Sometimes I think that it would be easier not to have any feelings. Man, wouldn't that be great? Can you imagine? Or maybe if I were in a coma or something and I could live in my own head all the time and I wouldn't know the difference.
