2 November Yesterday I wanted to call Omar so badly. I wanted to invite him to come to Kelly's party with me, but I knew that I wasn't supposed to call him, I was supposed to leave him alone and let him come to me when he wanted to come to me. But I couldn't stop thinking about how much I wanted to go to the party with him. And then I thought that if I wanted to talk to him that badly, I should just call him. So I did. I left a message saying that if he didn't want to come to the party, he didn't have to tell me so, it was okay. Partway through my rehearsal, he called. I looked at the phone and said, "I have to take this call," and answered it. We talked for eleven minutes in the middle of my rehearsal, which is unheard of--you don't take a non-emergency call and let your actors just stand around, but I had to talk to him, I had to hear his voice. It was his daughter's birthday yesterday, which I had forgotten about, so he couldn't go to the party, but we talked about how he is doing, training for his new job, trying to get well. We didn't decide on a time to get together, but he said that we'll talk and email and so on. Slowly, baby steps. I want him to hurry up and get well, but I know these things can't be rushed, and I cannot push. Don't startle the gazelle. Goddamn it was good to talk to him.
After rehearsal, I met up with Tracing and we saw Kill Bill Vol. 1. Spectacular! What a wonderful movie! I would have loved to see it with Omar, as I love blood and he loves beheadings, so it would definitely be a movie that would strike us the same way. But it was simply great fun, the characters, the dialogue, the performers. Uma Thurman gave a really solid performance, and the ending really was a jolt. I want Vol. 2! Now! I can't wait until February!
Then I went to Kelly's party. She lives near Tracing, so we went on the train together, which ended up being fortunate, since the train wasn't running and we had to go a different way and then walk, and I didn't have to figure out for myself how to do that. I arrived half an hour after the party started, and they were thrilled to see me, since I was the first to arrive! I gave them the bad news about the train and told them not to hold their breath for people to show up anytime soon, especially since it wasn't really clear what trains you could take instead, and in fact it was another half-hour before anyone else would arrive, and even then it was Maria and her husband and they have a car! But after a bit, more people arrived, and it was a really fun party. And Maria gave me a ride home, so it doesn't get any better than that. I hugged Kelly goodbye and said, "Aren't you glad you invited me? Because if you hadn't, nobody would have come to your party until 9p and you would have been very sad!"
