(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

12 May

So yesterday morning the phone rang at 11a, waking me, and it was Omar reminding me that it was Mother's Day and not to forget to call my mother. Isn't that the sweetest thing you ever heard?

After I got up and did in fact call my mother, I was watching the skating, and they did the weirdest thing. They were using the theme of Chicago, playing the songs as they were showing the faces of the skaters intercut with clips from the movie as sort of an intro and bumpers between the sections, and when they played "Give 'Em the Old Razzle-Dazzle", they got to the line, "How can they spot you got no talent" and they showed a fat close-up of Michelle Kwan's face! That certainly wasn't very nice!

After that I watched SNL from the night before with Adrien Brody hosting. Do you think that there could have been a few more fag jokes? Brody only played lisping gays or Spanish guys or lisping gay Spanish guys. He's not so much with the range, I think.

And then in the late afternoon I got an email from John officially turning down Moon, which I completely understand. It's an enormous undertaking and he just doesn't feel up to it. So I called Philip and offered him his choice of acting or directing.

I really think that there is a good chance for him to accept the role, but if so, who will direct? I'll offer it to Gregg David, whom I would love to have direct it, but if he says no I have no idea who else could do it.

When I called Omar to give him the lowdown, he started talking about Rose Tattoo. We discussed it last year in terms of my directing it, and I was interested, but there are children, a goat, and a hundred Italian accents and I just thought that it would be a gigantic pain in the ass. Plus, who would play the female lead? She needs to be old enough to have a grown-up daughter, but young enough to get pregnant again, she must be able to do an Italian accent and she cannot be thin. I couldn't think of anyone but me, frankly.

So he started talking about it again, and I told him that I really loved the play, but who would play Serafina? The person that we originally thought to do it is too old and too thin, and there really wasn't anyone in the company who could do it. And then he said, "Actually, you know who would be great in the role? You!" and I answered, "You're fucking right I would be, but I wasn't going to be the one to mention it!"

I could lose a little weight, and I shouldn't be as much taller than him than I actually am, and I'd have to dye my hair black, but other than that the only real problem is that Omar's cousin would poison me, because it's her dream role. However, since nobody has ever seen her act, she couldn't start with that role, and I'm sure as hell not going to direct her.

So even with Moon not even set yet, we're talking about the next one. And again, we'd have a director problem, in that who would we get. I wish Melissa lived nearby enough to do it, I think she could really have a feel for Williams.

Lenten entries missed:

Eliza had a really quite astoundingly crappy Lent. The wedding was called off, and no matter how much you know in your heart that it will all turn out to be for the best, that doesn't matter a good goddamn while you're in the thick of it. She found comfort in faith, found out that what she lost wasn't worth keeping, showed how strong and smart she is, boxed up the memories, remembered the good times, slowly started to come back into the light, and decided to throw a party on the day that she would have gotten married. That's a brilliant idea. We all love you, Eliza.

Today's horoscope:
Get to work early. Delegate the tasks that you know others can do. Your mind is clear enough to choose between many viable possibilities. Taking care of yourself is your best gift to a loved one.

One year ago today:
So, basically, I was more eccentric than I have ever been at an audition. Let me re-iterate that, I was more eccentric than anyone was at any audition!
