(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

10 March

Up at 7.45a yesterday, when will this madness end?

Omar and the kids and I all painted pictures on the dining room table. I haven't painted with poster paints for about thirty years, but I thought I did pretty well.

About halfway through Saturday, Omar put his foot down and said, "Enough of your music, we're listening to my music from now on!" and so yesterday morning we listened Carmen Miranda and then to a Hawaiian cd, which made Bonnie proclaim that yesterday was Hawaiian Day.

Similar to Indian Day, we all had to have Hawaiian names, which started out as Hawaiian Omar and Hawaiian Kymm, etc., but later she decided that we should be known for the day as Omar Fancy Boy and Kymm Smarty Pants. Appropriate, I think.

Once the older Callahans dragged their lazy Irish asses out of bed, we all went to church.

Omar had never been to a Presbyterian service before and he was interested to see what it's like. One thing that it was like was friendly. We got there and we were absolutely descended upon by the Presbyterians, every single one of them feeling the need to welcome us personally. I was practically hiding behind Omar, I cannot take that much friendliness all at once.

The service started out with a bell choir, which was brilliant, followed by a liturgical dance, which really kind of was not. The pastor went on quite a bit in his sermon, but he was never anything less than interesting, and the choir only sang once, but they sucked so that was just fine. I still can't quiet get over the idea of no genuflecting or kneeling, let alone no communion, it's like sex without coming as far as I'm concerned.

I prefer a little more ritual with my liturgy, but it was nice all going to church together. Even if everyone was so friendly that we practically had to kill them to escape.

Lancaster closes down on Sundays. Apparently, in Pennsylvania they do not subscribe to the notion that brunch comes after church. We walked around for a bit and found one place that was open. Subway. Just kidding, we went to Subway to kill time for half an hour before the only other place in town that opens on Sunday opened, a really nice little pub.

Then we went back to the house and packed up and cleaned and closed up the house and went back to New York. I would have been perfectly happy to stay, but it was time to go. I thought that I would have less stuff coming back, but I somehow managed to take home even more food than I brought in the first place.

I let Omar drive all the way home. He had never driven on the highway before, and he even got all the way up to 70 mph once! When we got back to Jersey he was so excited, "Dina and Lissette will just shit when they hear that I drove all the way home, they never let me drive. They'll really hate you now!"

I dropped him at his parents' house--we were going to go to Le's opening night, but it was too to get into the city without really rushing, and he needed to eat. So I just went home and fed the cats.

And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. And on the sixth day we rested, because we work slightly faster than God.

Today's horoscope:
If a straight line isn't available, take the long way around. People who know you can wait for your explanation in a quieter moment. Nosey strangers may not like what you have to say.

One year ago today:
Of course, it wasn't just any big freak, it was the one that I was supposed to meet that somehow knew that sitting in the lobby waiting for me wasn't as good an idea as tackling me as I wander by like a baby duck, you know, if baby ducks walked down the street reading Entertainment Weekly.
