3 July So yesterday Helene was in town, so Tracing and I met up with her for lunch and we all had a swell time. I even almost forgave her for leaving the baby with her husband and taking a day off to be a person rather than a Mommy and not dragging her child on a bus from wherever it was in New Jersey than she and her husband were visiting but I don't care because if there's a baby, I want to meet him.
After dropping Tracing off at the subway and leaving Helene to get caught in traffic and miss the bus (I told her afterwards that she was insane to trust that she had plenty of time because I had said that she had plenty of time--was she not aware of how often I miss planes?) I went to drop off the roll of film that I had shot on Monday. Now of course, I should have dropped it off on Tuesday, but I forgot to bring it with me when I came into the city and didn't so much think that that was a problem, forgetting that it is a holiday week and I needed to get the proofs back by Friday! Which is the holiday, so that meant that I really needed it by today. And was dropping it off late yesterday afternoon. Are you beginning to see the problem? I went to a bunch of places uptown, none of whom could do it, before deciding to go downtown to 17th St., aka Photography Central. There's a colour lab that I often go to down there and I had a feeling that they would be able to have it for me today. Until I got there and saw the "Store For Rent" sign in the window. Guess I haven't been down there in awhile, huh? There was another colour lab across the street, so I went there, and they said that the best they could do was Monday, but I dropped it off anyway. Walking back to the subway, though, I saw another place and thought that I'd go in and see if they could do better, and they saw the sad look on my little face and said that they could have it done by 5p today, so I ran back to the first place and snatched my film back. If this place does a good job, I may have found a new lab to be loyal to!
On my way back uptown, I stopped at Barnes and Noble and bought a thousand books (time to stop buying things, people with birthdays coming up shouldn't buy things for themselves!), some Diana Wynne Jones books that I don't have, and all of the Harry Potter books in paper (I need to re-read the old ones before I can read the new one, that is the rule, and I can't find all of my hardcovers), and some other stuff, as well as waving hi to Pamie's book. Then I stopped in at Virgin and got the new DVD of What's Up Doc for Cynthia as a thank-you present for directing the show. Usually after a big show, the cast gets together and gets a present for the director, but in this case the run was so short and we were so tired, we didn't get a chance to do anything. Then I went home and collapsed. Fuck me, it's hot. This summer sucks ass.
