(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

14 February

The Raccoon did not come in again yesterday due to the child of sickness currently residing with her, so again I got to be in charge in a whirl of efficiency. I think that I am being fairly intelligent and impressive.

The Assistant Controller had me run a report for her yesterday. All day. How many different ways can one run a single report? About twelve. How long can that take? About all day. Busy busy busy! Audit! Phone calls from hysterical people! I felt rather like a cross between Old Mother Hubbard and an octopus, but I did well.

I certainly can't complain, either, since I leave for two weeks at the busiest and most horrible time of the year and The Raccoon has to be both her and me, but I can live without being both me and her at the end of the biggest audit of the year, let me tell you that.

Second night of the show was fairly good, better than opening, but still a bit off. This might have something to do with the fact that lines and cues were still awfully off as recently as Monday, and That Man never would let the show run without stopping and noting and fixing.

You cannot see the shape of the show unless you do runthoughs, you can't see what needs to be picked up and where they can take their time, you cannot see the throughline. It's running at 1h 40m, but they could knock 10 minutes off of it without even breathing hard if they would just overlap the lines! Do you have any idea how long Orpheus would have been had I not lived up their asses about the overlapping? Neither do I, but pretty darn long!

The funniest thing was when I was waiting to come on in the black, instead of the music coming on, That Man must have hit the tuner instead and a really loud radio commercial for PC Richards came on instead.

It clicked off abruptly, then there was a thirty second wait in the silence and the dark before the music came on and we could start. I started to giggle, but stopped myself, as that put me in rather the wrong place for the post-rape start of the show.

Omar's harem came to the show last night, and then spent hours afterwards telling him at length how terrible it and everyone in it was.

He emailed me slightly hysterically when he got home about it, but I only got the message this morning and I called him as soon as I did. He had calmed down, of course, but I still felt as though I were talking him down from a great height. It's not as though everything that they said was wrong, they had some comments that were right on the money, but they were coming from the direction of really hating the script, and there is no way to go up from there.

A little suggestion to all of you non-acting friends and relatives of actors out there. If you see someone in a show part-way through the run and you have suggestions on how they should have been playing their part and how they should completely change everything and movies they should watch that they can base this new character on, keep them to yourselves, it is not helpful. At all.

The worst part is that his daughter did not come, but she was there for the discussion and now the show is tainted for her. Hopefully she will be able to see it through her own eyes when she comes, not her mother's and cousin's.

Today's horoscope:
There's an expanding magic in efficiency and economy. You seek clarity in the light where some would seek privacy in the dark. Everyone does better in the company of women today.

One year ago today:
If Russell Crowe has taken over the top place from Tommy Lee Jones, then WHEN did you say something like "I know I said that I would crawl over broken glass to give Tommy Lee Jones a blowjob, but I would EAT the same amount of broken glass for Russell Crowe"?"
