(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

22 December

So yesterday was church in the morning, Stuck on You at the Academy in the afternoon. A peculiar juxtaposition.

I love my church, I love St. Charles. It is the church that I was baptized in, the church that I have gone to my entire life, along with St. Jane Frances when I was a teenager, and the church where I am completely at home.

It's huge, cathedral-sized, but it's mine and feels as homely as if it were tiny. Anything can fit you if it is yours.

After that was, as I said, Stuck on You. I don't particularly care for the Farrelly Brothers, not being the biggest fan of There's Something About Mary that ever lived (though I did grudgingly admit that it was funny in places), but the trailer just looked so funny, and I do like Kinnear, so I decided to go.

And it was so charming! It wasn't scatological or embarrassing humour, it was ugly or distasteful or hard, it was sweet and lovable, but not going the other way into gooey sentimentality.

Greg Kinnear and Matt Damon were hilarious and human as the conjoined twins, you never stopped laughing but the birth defect was never played for laughs--it's so lame to say that you laughed with them rather than at them, but it's true. God I'm making this movie sound lame. It's not, it's funny, it's not dumb, it's worth watching.

Afterwards there was The Company, but I didn't feel like going out again. I got an email from Omar that really upset me. Sometimes he's so stiff and formal in email, it's like we never met. I wish he'd come home, but I'm starting to feel like he's not going to.

This was the funniest thing in the world. They have this display of Academy Award memorabilia at the Academy, and the very first thing that I looked at was this letter, which was written but a girl in Love Creek! I called her as I stood there and left a message, "In 1984 did you write a letter to the Motion Picture Academy? Because I'm looking at it right now!"

It was extremely cool.

Today's horoscope:
Postponed events and rerouted items pile up at the beginning of your week. The free ride is over -- it's time to earn your keep. Even with all the grumbling and growling, you do a splendid job.

One year ago today:
It turned out really curly that way, so there's a tip for you gals out there, if you want your hair to be as curly as it can be, stick your head in the oven.
