(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

17 December

So yesterday I went to the doctor to get my blood tested and my cholesterol pills refilled. I coughed as I was coming in and she asked, "Are you sick or is that just your regular cough?" It was just my regular cough. I complained about the price of my medicine and she gave me a handful of samples.

Afterwards, I picked up the kids from the bus and stopped at the post office for more stamps and to send off my Secret Santa present. Molly sat herself down on the floor and did her homework. She is the most self-possessed seven-year-old ever to have been born, I think.

After Cynthia came home, I went off into the city to see Tracing.

I got her a special present that she had to have before 1 January, an eleven year journal (why they bill it as a ten plus year journal, it should either be ten or be called eleven for heaven's sake). Athena got some, and so did Laura, and I decided to get one for myself, then thought that they would make perfect presents for both Tracing and Omar, as they are both going through such changes in their lives I thought they might enjoy having this project to do, not to mention this book at the end of it.

Tracing loved hers, and I can hardly wait until 1 January to start mine, frankly. It'll be the record of my 40's. I'll be 50 when it's finished, which is the most horrifying thought that I can think. I'm about resigned to turning 40 next year, the idea of one day turning 50 gives me the vapours.

We went out to dinner, and on the way we found a nice sidewalk stand where I did a pile of my Christmas shopping. I spent some money, but I took care of the rest of the California presents.

When I got home, Cynthia told me that a real estate inspector is coming over this morning in order to make certain that the place hadn't depreciated in the past seven years (practically impossible considering how the housing prices have skyrocketed around here), and could I clear paths through the debris in my apartment. Today! At 11a! And she couldn't mention it earlier? So I stayed up until 4a cleaning and put all of my clothes away. Really! They are all in the closet, believe it or not.

I hope the inspector appreciates my great effort and refinances that loan! My picking up my clothes should not be in vain.

Today's horoscope:
A general sense of well-being fills the gaps for which you have no data. Although you're less certain than yesterday, risk has its appeal. Cut corners with deals and coupons whenever possible.

One year ago today:
He was Medea, you see, in his last relationship, betrayed and wanting revenge (though of course not exacting it, because all that really does is hurt yourself), and I, of course, was Jason when I was with Greg, the betrayer.
