9 December It's warmer and the snow is melting. I can tell, because I am able to open my door, since I live in the House Filled With People Who Wouldn't Be Seen Dead Shoveling Snow, aka The Bad Neighbours. With all the snow, I had to go out through the house, because my door was completely sealed shut, but now that the snow is softer, I was able to shove it aside with the door. Argh! Hulk move snow!
Yesterday Cold Mountain was playing at SAG, and I actually got there on time for the screening that I meant to go to! Quite startling, I barely knew how to react to that. Capsule review: Apparently, war is hell. Also, war is about two and a half hours long. That makes it sound as though I didn't like it, when I did, I thought it was quite good with good performances and an interesting story, but it kind of went on a bit with the fact that war is very very bad indeed, both for those that go and those that stay behind, and people who are bad in their hearts just get worse. Also, things were telegraphed in a soap-opera-ish way, like when you see two people say, "My darling, I have never been happier!" you know that one of them will die immediately. But the music was outstanding, and I loved Renee Zellweger, even though she was a little cartoony, and I cried several times, and all in all I recommend it, even though it was a little pedantic about certain war-related things.
