1 December I dreamt last night that Rob Zombie's movie The House of 10,000 Corpses was actually a documentary about Rob Zombie's house. But there weren't any corpses, so it was a somewhat peculiarly-named documentary. Anyway, then I was in the house, along with a lot of my friends, and Rob kept wanting to have orgies, and I didn't mind fucking him, I actually had a fine time doing so, but some of the others didn't want to, particularly Kirsten, so it was my job to put my foot down and not let Rob have the orgies. I was the boss of Rob Zombie. This is apparently what happens when you watch I Still Love the 80's before going to bed. Rob Zombie was on once and said one thing, but apparently that was enough.
So yesterday I was going to see The Girl With the Pearl Earring at SAG at 6p and get to Le's book signing at 9p as it started, but of course I left the house too late again and only got into the city at 6.05p, so have time to kill again. This time, at least, it was only two and a half hours rather than three, because it's a much shorter movie. Much shorter, and much better--I absolutely loved it. It's from the book of the same name, that I really am interested in reading now, about Vermeer's maid who posed for the title painting. I believe that almost nothing is known about Vermeer's life, and thus it is a fictional account of what might have happened. The performances were excellent, particularly Scarlett Johansson in the title role, who did a lovely job with seemingly under twenty lines, but she is never less than present even in her silence. The other thing that I loved were the period details, the little things that made up what it was like to live in Holland in the 17th century.
After that, I arrived late to the signing, but it was still going on, fortunately. Le has a new book out, Eight Plays From the Heartland, a collection of his one-acts. I proof-read it for him, checking the spelling of all of the names as well as formatting all of the cast lists at the beginning of each play, and I was happy to see that Samuel French kept all of my work, didn't re-format it themselves. It's a gorgeous volume, it really is, and of course the plays are great as well. Anyone looking for one-act plays could do worse by getting it.
I really love Cold Case. I love it so much so that even though I only end up TiVoing half of it because of the stupid football which makes the entire Sunday night schedule half an hour off, I always watch the half that I have and never find out who the murderer is. I can't wait until football season is over.
