(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

16 August

I went to McDonald's for breakfast yesterday morning and had a look at the paper to see what it had to say about BLACKOUT 2003!!!

God! I was so jealous! In Union Square, apparently, it was an all-night party with drumming and dancing. And who wants to get stuck on the subway, but who doesn't want to walk on the subway tracks? And the people who slept on the sidewalk in Times Square! Man, the next time there is a big disaster, particularly a nice one where nobody really gets hurt and it's just an adventure, I want to be in Manhattan for it.

One thing I'm definitely going to do, though, is get my inhaler refilled, because it's very low and I barely ever need it, but in emergencies like this you always hear about people having asthma attacks--there was a guy in the article in the paper who was having one outside the subway station, and the one thing that I would be able to do for people is have an inhaler that I could pass around.

So I spent the day watching the news and being jealous of people with the good stories, and talking on the phone with Tracing, who still hadn't gotten her power back.

Then I went in to go to the show. Now, I wasn't certain whether I would be able to get in, whether the vans were running, though they always are, and whether there would be a show at all. It took me 45 minutes to get a van, but once I got on one I got into the city quickly.

And there was nobody at the theatre. The manager of the building was there and said, "Are you having a show tonight?" "Well, we will if the actors show up!" So I waited and waited and waited. And waited some more. Called the director on her cell. No answer.

Finally, the light board operator arrived, who said that he had spent the day trying to reach the actors with no luck. Then one of them showed up! But he was the only one, the other four couldn't make it. And with the subways not running, that did make sense. So we all went home. It was a lovely short evening, that's for sure.

Today's horoscope:
This is the wrong moment to take sides. When Virgo picks a winner, the loser is sure to be personally offended. How did you get into this fight at all? Retrace your steps and bow out.

One year ago today:
It didn't win the evening, and it shouldn't have, because it was a pretty good script, but the performances were unbelievably good, and it could have swayed an unobservant judge.
