31 May Wow, yesterday was gorgeous. I went out to run an errand, and the bus back uptown wouldn't come and wouldn't come, so I ended up having to walk, but it was no trial. I was wondering a little if The Raccoon might mention the fact that this was the second two hour lunch I took this week (the first being my rehearsal on Wednesday), but she just said that she thought I was late because it was so beautiful. Normally, these are the days that I accidentally never leave the office all day.
And what was my errand? I paid my SAG dues! No, really! I was two payments behind, plus the current, so that was $210, but you know what this means? It means that when Steven Soderbergh calls me and tells me that when he saw me scream "I need a big couch 'cause I'm a big personality!!" in Naomi in the Livingroom he knew I was just the right girl to do a love scene with George Clooney in his current film, I won't have to stop on my way to the airport to pay them then. Because what if it's Saturday?! It also means that when the Film Society forms go out next month, I'll be able to join right away before it fills up without having to scrounge an extra $210 first.
So, yesterday was my last knitting class, which was very big on the learning stuff side, as we learned changing colours and binding off, and probably something else that I'm blanking on now. She also said that she was pleased at how into it we all seemed, that we weren't hung up on making something, more on learning and experimenting and so on. She told a story about a woman in a class who insisted on everything being something, so she made what turned out to be two identical scarves, one in all knit stitch and one in all purl. Where's the fun in that? I've made, over these four weeks, a four and a half foot, um, bunch of knitting! I've done patterns and I've practiced different kinds of elongated stitches, I've experimented and found out what works and what doesn't, what looks cool and what looks idiotic, I've done all kinds of things without worrying that what I'm making has to turn into something. Although I'm pretty sure that I'll make it into a wall hanging, just for fun. Abstract art with yarn. And then I bought new needles and some plum-coloured mohair yarn to make one of those fabulous spiderweb scarves. I can't wait to start! I kept getting excited about different kinds of yarn, asking what you could make with this one, and the teacher finally looked knowingly at me and said, "You're gonna buy a lot of yarn!" I don't know where she gets the impression that I am the kind of person who gets obsessed with things and buys way more of any item than a person could use up in her lifetime, do you? Hey, stop looking at my bathroom!
Lenten entries missed: Jenn took a bath, expounded on things that are good for her soul, celebrated her son's first birthday, and had a room of her own.
