(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

27 May

Another day, another rehearsal.

I got there a little late, so we just started. Carrie was wearing this pretty shift with blue and yellow flowers on it that I almost complimented her on, but then I didn't, and we did the run, and then about halfway through the show, when Tony has to exit and come back dressed as her, he did! He was wearing that same flowered shift, and I just about fell over laughing, I was so surprised.

I mean, we had talked about simple black dresses, and when Brian was in the show for ten minutes, he was going to wear a dress of mine, but Tony is bigger than me and would not fit in it, so I was completely fooled by the flowers. Apparently, they had gone to K-Mart, and found the only dress that would fit him (that changing room must have been entertaining) in the Plus Sizes, and then went over to the regular clothes and were lucky enough to find the same dress for her. It's so much funnier this way, than the plain black dress would have been.

After rehearsal, I went to see About a Boy, even though it only just opened and I couldn't use a pass. This was because I had forgotten my purse at home and didn't have any passes. Fortunately, I had $20 in my pocket, and managed to manage my money so perfectly that I came home with 4¢ left over. Though it meant that I had to go without nachos--it wa either that or call Cynthia to pick me up in the car because I didn't have money for the van, and she would have been really pissed. Ah, the sad life I lead.

Anyway, the movie was absolutely spectacular, I adored it. The performances were outstanding, Hugh Grant, Toni Colette, the kid, Nicholas Hoult, they were wonderful. And Hugh wasn't doing his stammering bit, which I actually like, but it was as nice to see him break through that acting crutch as it was to see George Clooney stop looking up through his eyelashes.

When I got home, I talked Cynthia and Fran into watching Truly Madly Deeply with me. Fran didn't so much want to see it after Cynthia described it to him as being " Ghost with British people," which is about the worst description of the film that I have ever encountered.

So I did alot of coaxing, describing it more as "Ghost for smart people," and "Ghost is completely cheesy and soppy, this has Alan Rickman in it, how soppy could it be?" and he finally agreed.

And they loved it. Why he doesn't trust my taste by now, I don't know, but he certainly should. When I say, "You guys will love this one!" I am always correct! Cynthia tends to trust my taste, but Fran is forgetful, and doesn't remember that the last million times in a row that I have said that, I have been on the money. I have been trying to get them to watch my beloved Passion Fish for simply years, and I have yet to manage it. I will, though, never you fear.

God I love Truly Madly Deeply, though. Desperately, passionately. I saw it in the movie theatre in London, and immediately sat through it and watched it again. Juliet Stevenson is great, and I love the fact that she is ordinary pretty rather than movie star stunning, it makes it easier to relate to her, and I love the fact that she is surrounded by men who adore her.

And don't even try to get me started on Alan Rickman. Why he hasn't played more straight leading man parts rather than twisted villains, I'll never know, as he is so beautiful. Not to mention the fact that he has so much going on beneath his skin that he can make even the dullest character seem as though he's simply teeming with hidden depths.

To misquote Emma Thompson, from the Sense and Sensibility alternate audio track, "We wanted Alan for the role because he is so brooding and mysterious. Let's face it, he's be brooding and mysterious if he were playing the milkman."

And of course, I am a complete sap for a story about a woman who misses her dead boyfriend so much that he has to come back.

O, before Truly Madly Deeply, I checked my email and discovered that I was not, in fact, cast in Midsummer, so I told Cynthia to check her email, and she hadn't been either.

I was sorry, I am sorry, but I still am pleased with my audition, and I don't feel that it was something that I did wrong, just that they decided to go in another direction. I'm glad that I can now go to Melissa's reception without any possible conflicts, and I'm looking forward to seeing the play.

I can't say that I'm not hoping to see that the people they cast in roles I could have played (except for Kate) will be slightly less good than I would have been, but I never claimed not to be a little spiteful.

By the way, my gum lump is now a gum flap. It unfurled itself and now sort of covers my tooth in a loose way. I have to keep removing rice from underneath it.

Lenten entries missed:

Mary Ellen did some house-sitting, had the Cold From Hell, then both got robbed and had a fire. Lent wasn't entirely good to Mary Ellen!

O, and she has a LiveJournal now that she actually updates occasionally, so that's good.
