(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

3 May

So I got a call from a director to appear in a show at Love Creek. Here it is, May, and it'll be the first show I have done all year!

The only problem is the conversation that I had with Kate over the weekend, where she told me about the production of Midsummer that her theatre company is doing. Ever since I saw their production of The Witch of Edmonton that absolutely blew my mind wide open, I have been begging Kate to let me know when they are next auditioning, because I simply have to work with them.

I never wrote about the show, I think I had gotten really behind on entries at that time, and in catching up I ended up skipping a day or two, but the show was astoundingly good, brilliantly conceived, with some performances so strong that it was all I could do not to jump onstage. Love Creek does great shows, and has great actors, but sometimes there's a dud, or the script isn't really strong, or there just isn't any money behind it, and I wanted to have the opportunity to do a show of that all-around quality.

So, in the car with Kate, she said to me, "So, we're doing Midsummer again...Hey! You should audition!" and after asserting that most of the shows and all of the rehearsals will be in New York, I jumped at the chance, and emailed the director as soon as I got back to NY. As did Cynthia, who got interested from my description.

Now, I assume, possibly erroneously, but I expect to get the gig. Because I am so terrifically good, and have a look that I think will interest the director. Cynthia, when I told that I expect to get cast because I'm so good, said, "Well, I'm so good, but I don't get cast all the time!" And there's the difference, I never audition for anything ever, so I still think that quality will out. Cynthia knows that no such thing is true.

So anyway, I am working under the assumption that I will get this show, and now I get offered this other show. Which I am offered specifically because I told Le that I was available.

So, once I got the dates I realized that I could probably do both, because it's just a little short one-act and it's at the beginning of June. You know, if necessary. And after I accepted it, I read it, which is the wrong way around for most people, but usually I don't even read it at all until the first read-through, so the fact that I read it at all is surprising.

And it's a scream. And it's a fat lead for me, though it's only a few pages long, it's the kind of show where the other actors are only there so that I don't have to take up all of the room on the stage all by myself, they are space-fillers. It's called Naomi in the Living Room, and I will just get to be big and silly and it's short enough that the audience will be charmed without our getting tiresome. One can only hope.

I think that my actual hair will be perfect! Not to mention that it should work for Midsummer as well. You know, if necessary.

It starts rehearsing next week, and I see some trouble ahead because the director wants to rehearse on Tuesday and Wednesday for two hours each. For a five page play. That opens in June. All I can hope is that the director backs off a little as we go on, because I couldn't stand to rehearse like that for the next month--it'll kill my performance if nothing else, I'll get so bored.

So, May and June are looking to be busy!

Lenten entries missed:

Kim, um, Kim kind of doesn't date her entries, so it's kind of hard to tell which ones are over Lent and which ones are before, there haven't been any since. But she did shop for a wedding dress, bought the wedding dress and had her three year journalversary!
