15 June Watching David Bowie Live By Request on A&E. He must have had some major cosmetic surgery, because no-one could look that good and be that old and have lived that hard without it. I remember some pictures of him only a few years ago where he looked like death--admittedly, he had a much less attractive haircut at the time. He does not seem at all happy to be asked to play "China Girl". I read an interview with him and Moby recently, where he said that when people tell him the songs of his that mean the most, sometimes he thinks, "Wrong one, you shouldn't love that one!" I think we all now know one of those songs! Why is he wearing Walkman headphones? I assume that it's the newest way to hear your own mix, rather than having monitors pointed back at yourself, but it does look rather as though he's singing along with a cd or something. Maybe someone's in the back with a copy of Changesbowie, cuing up tracks, since there are too many lyrics to remember these days. He does seem to be having a blast, flirting with the callers and so on. He really is being astoundingly charming. Makes me want to buy the new album, which I assume is the reason behind this appearance. Either that or it is an astounding co-incidence!!
The Raccoon wasn't at work yesterday, and I never found out why, because the stockholder's meeting was yesterday as well, and the Lord God King of Accounting was not to be found in his office, so it's all a mystery to me. When she's not there, I always work like a motherfucker, and since we are coming up to end of quarter, working like a motherfucker was exactly what was required. But by 8p, I was tired of working, so I clocked out, but I didn't leave, because I wanted to see if that damn card reader could be loaded into my laptop. I was beginning to think that I would only be able to show people the pictures that I have taken with my digital camera by passing it around from person to person, which is much slower than I would like, but finally, after four unsuccessful tries to get various software onto various computers, it worked! And here is proof, the first picture that I took with my little Nikon, or at least the first that I took and kept.
Yes, that's Stockton, isn't she cute? I have some pictures taken with real film that are much better, but this is what there is. I kind of like the snap-shot-y quality that I get from this camera, it's a whole 'nother way of thinking. Like this one of Elvis and Monty:
Now, that is a shot that I never would have taken with a regular camera--not having to have your eye pressed to the viewfinder makes for much less linear photographs. So my best work is still done with the 35mm camera, and that is likely to remain so, but there is a whole other range of things I can do stylistically with a digital camera, and it's pretty exciting figuring out what those things are!
