29 July So yesterday I woke up having absolutely no idea what that noise was! That noise would be my alarm clock, that I have had for at least twelve years, and am well aware of the noise that it makes. But yesterday, man, I sat up in bad thinking, "What on earth is going on?" This must have something to do with the fact that it was Sunday and my alarm was set for 7a and I had gone to bed around 2a the night before. The funny part was that it was actually 7.09a, which mean either that the alarm had been ringing for nine minutes, or, more likely, that I had whapped that snooze bar while still completely asleep. And why was I getting up at that appalling hour on a Sunday? Because yesterday was Metamorphoses day is why! Yes, I took Katie for her very very late birthday present (I figure that I better had before I had to start dealing with her Christmas present), so I had to get to the box office early to get my tickets.
The box office opens at 10a, so I got there at 8a. This time I was first rather than second, as I have always been before. I was first! First first first! No-one else was there! And no-one else was there for a really long time, either, the second person came at 9.45a. I was wondering if this meant that the show would be closing soon, if nobody was showing up for the line anymore.
10a came and went, and the door did not open. I thought maybe I was wrong, that it was 11a, so I asked the other guy in line, and he said that no, the box office opens at noon on Sunday. Whoops! I guess I didn't have to get up at 7a after all! Ah well, it didn't really bother me, all I missed out on was sleep.
I think, though, the next time I go I might not get there early, so that I can sit in a different place. I'd really like to get a different perspective, maybe sit on one of the sides or something rather than at the front--it's all blocked in 3/4, there isn't a bad seat in the house, it might be nice to be able to look at the show differently.
I went home and hung out for an hour before turning back around and coming back. Foolish, but I had told Katie that I'd pick her up, and besides, if I wanted her to be on time, it would probably behoove me to make certain that she was.
At 2p we left, and had to wait quite some time for the van. It was getting hot and humid again, too, after a relatively nice week. It looked like rain, so we were glad that the cookout had been canceled for dinnertime, even though we haven't had hardly any this year. Just the one, actually, but since it ended up in a fistfight between Katie and her father, I think that that has made people a trifle skittish about trying it again.
We made the theatre just in time, and settled down under out towels to watch the show. It wasn't the best of the three performances that I have seen--I think Sunday matinees are the most likely to have slightly low energy, what with it being the day before the day off and following a day of two shows, but even with it being just a teeny bit tired, it was still wonderful. There had been a cast change, but according to the programme, it wasn't a New York actor cast, but someone from Lookingglass in Chicago who has worked with the director many times, so it really was more like getting an old cast member than a new one. She replaced the only actress that I didn't so much care for, also, so that was a relief. She played things a little lighter than I thought she should have, but since that's the role I want, I'd think that, wouldn't I? And I think that Kyle has new trousers as Vertumnus, as I'm pretty certain that I would have remembered if had he worn lime green pants tight enough that you can tell what religion he is. Chris Kipiniak is still way cute and crush-worthy. When I got home, I googled him to see if my mentions of him showed up, and they do! In fact, this entry is like number six, and if I were him and I was googling myself and I saw something that said, "I've decided to have a crush on Chris Kipiniak, the actor who plays The King Who Fucks His Daughter..." that's a link I'd follow! So Chris, if you ever read this, I don't only have a crush on you because you are the actor most likely to be straight, I have a crush on you because you're truly the most crushable of the cast, and my birthday is coming up if you want to get me a present! Anyway, Katie loved it, which made me happy. Nothing is worse than when you show someone something that you adore and it turns out that they just think that it's kinda okay, but she reacted with the proper amount of interest, so I was glad.
On the way home, the van got in a tiny fender-bender on the approach to the tunnel, which means that we sat in the way for a really really long time, and Katie and I played with the camera. This guy was this amazingly handsome, golden-tanned guy who was having the most hilarious cell-phone conversation about his girlfriend Tiffany, whom he loves, but is not in love with, and whom he was going to break up with to see how she would react.
Here is Katie, not so much wanting to have her picture taken.
And here she is, succumbing to the inevitable, and realizing that if her picture was going to be on the internet, she probably should look as pleasant as possible.
And Athena certainly wins the Most Intrepid Journaller Award for writing up Ty's birth story only three days after the event took place!
So, watch out everyone, what's that lurking in the shadows? It's me! This is pretty funny, judging from all that Chris Kipiniak stuff above, so if he scrolls down this far, no birthday present for me, I'm thinking. Found through Elle.
