2 July So yesterday was the first day of the new quarter, and I bounded out of bed and skipped my ass to the office. We could enter invoices again! We could cut checks again! We could do our jobs again! I worked like a beaver all day, really joyous. It wore off this morning, but I have rarely had a happier day at work than yesterday. I could work at my work! Maybe my job isn't the most interesting or challenging one on the planet earth, but it's much better doing it than not, you know, if I have to be there anyway.
So, little Bill, the boy that Moira almost got for me, has slipped from our grasp. It seems that he will be in camp production week, and it's already paid for. Argh! I got a call from Ann, though, saying that Beverly said that I should call Carol, because she has a couple of kids of various sizes that will be in Macbeth in August, and maybe one of them would do. It's as though I have this army of people, searching the world to find me a seven year old boy who can learn lines. Also, it's like I always have a possibility going, I'm never without one hope--everytime one falls through, there's another one on the horizon. Of course, the horizon of the show actually opening is absolutely screaming towards me at the speed of sound, so one of these possibilities had better pan out, dammit.
We didn't have rehearsal last night because I thought I was going to stay late at work. Of course, since I got in so early, I decided that if I stayed past 8p, my head would explode. So I didn't. I went home and watched TV. And what could be better than that, I ask you? One of the things I watched was the rerun of SNL with Cameron Diaz that I missed the first time, which was, I think, the worst episode of the year. I like Cameron Diaz, I think she's really funny and a good actress, but clearly she is the kind who needs more than just the one take, and flying by the seat of her pants is not so much her bag. Because she really sucked a whole lot, not to mention the fact that she kept being fumblemouthed and so on. And has there ever been a worse running character in the history of the show than Astronaut Jones? I watched it open-mouthed in horror, and I have seen it before, so I know that someone actually must like the fucking thing, for some unknown reason. I read something saying that now that Will Ferrell has gone, that Tracy Morgan is poised to be the go-to guy next season. Who would think such a thing? Not somebody who has actually seen the show, that's for certain. The thing with Ferrell was that he had alot of range, could play alot of different kinds of characters, was really able to do many things of an evening. Tracy Morgan, on the other hand, can only play Tracy Morgan, which is useful and interesting maybe once or twice a month, or every couple of months, but not several times a show. The only explanation that I can think of is that Tracy has something over Lorne, possibly dirty pictures or maybe he has his mother tied up in a basement somewhere.
The other thing I watched on TV was the AFI Tom Hanks Life Achievement Award thing, which was really good but for one horrifying thing. Hayley Joel Osment. He was there, and he got up to talk about doing Forrest Gump. And his voice has changed. My heart shattered into tiny bits.
