25 February Someday, perhaps, someone will ask me, what is the one enduring image from the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, and I think that the only thing that I will be able to say is the sight of KISS on a riser in the middle of a giant ice rink, singing "I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night (And Party Every Day)" while Kristy Yamaguchi and Katarina Witt skate around them wearing black bras and a red fluffy vest and wristlets, respectively. That may be the image I see on my deathbed. I don't think it will ever leave my head. Though, um, the sight of a girl in a lime green jacket singing "Volare" in order to demonstrate Italian culture (the 2006 games will be held in Torino) comes in a close second. And my God, Jozef Sebobchec skating with fireworks coming out of his heels (in some shots it looked like it was coming out of his ass), and then everyone singing "Happy Trails", it was like one of my more complicatedly bizarre dreams.
Saturday I spent in the darkroom, even though I am almost completely broke and cannot afford it at all, I just was ready to gnaw my own arms off. It was nice, because I didn't have a deadline that I was working towards, so I just did what I felt like doing, which was blowing up the shots from the recording session. And my heavens, they turned out beautifully! The lighting in the studio was so dramatic, all sort of spotlights, which meant that there were sort of alternating bright and shadowy areas, which makes for lovely pictures without much effort on my part. I made sets for Joan and Roy and Marty and me, and made extra copies of a couple of them for the American Photo contest. Yes, it's that time again! The deadline is in August, but I don't want to have to go through this again, so I decided to start now. I also brought along some pictures that I had around the house and started making new, pretty copies of those. I ended up with about eight shots, which is a nice start. And this is the first time I've gone since my laptop is back, so I quite happily watched Down From the Mountain, Ghost World, and the extras that I hadn't seen yet from the second disc of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It was a nice way to spend a Saturday.
