(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

18 February

So yesterday I dragged myself out of the house for long enough to see a movie.

I was going to see Brotherhood of the Wolf and Monster's Ball, but by the end of Wolf I was emotionally exhausted and staggered off home. You really can't see two movies in a day when one of them is Brotherhood of the Wolf, and not only because it's 2 1/2 hours long.

It's quite a film, actually, to riff on the joke in every single review, it's about the best French / period / martial arts / horror / political / gore / romance / mystery / adventure film I've ever seen. I just sat there saying, "Okay, gimme the kitchen sink!" because certainly everything else was in that movie.

There's something for everyone--gorgeous men leaping around like salmon (o that Indian!), stunning women with perfect breasts, there's even a sex scene with blood for me!

There are also about four false endings, which gets a little old after awhile, but mostly it's just quite a romp.

I'd have to say that the only thing that I didn't entirely enjoy was the woman who sat next to me and immediately fell asleep and snored, waking up every so often to watch a few minutes through slitted eyes, then immediately fall back asleep again, though I must say that I did find it entertaining to imagine what she thought of the movie. It's peculiar enough when you watch the whole thing in a row, it must have seemed like a dream gone amok when watched in small slivers.

In my head I'm screaming, "There's the obvious performance and there's the entirely wrong performance, you choose!", but Bev is a much nicer director than I will ever be...
