(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

4 December

So yesterday I decided to stop goddamn going in at 8.30a. I'm supposed to be there at 11a! I am allowed to sleep in! But what with having to leave early for two and a half weeks for the show, and my having an hysteria about if I come in after The Raccoon she'll spend the two hours I'm not there discovering everything that I have done wrong or not at all.

I woke up at 8.30a all "Argh! Argh! I have overslept!" and then "Ahhhh, I get to sleep for another hooouuuurrr...."

Of course, I should have gone in early, since I was leaving early, but what the hell, I'll stay late on Friday or something.

And why was I leaving early? Because we were doing the reading for Bus Stop! This is the first time that I've actually gotten to read in these readings that we have been doing, but when Omar did the schedule, I lasered in on Bus Stop because I wanted to play the older waitress, Grace.

Al was going to play my boyfriend, but he ended up not being able to because of Country Wife rehearsals, so Bob ended up in the role. And he and I were really good together! He was quite good in Petrified Forest, but that was the only thing that I'd ever seen him do. Grace and Carl spend half the play offstage fucking like rabbits, so when we're onstage, we really had to have a connection, and so I gave it to him with both barrels, and he gave it right back.

Also, we were the only two people on the stage to pick up a cue. Everyone else was really good, don't get me wrong, especially Matt and Kelly in the leads, but everyone was just a teeny bit in love with the sound of their own voices.

It was really great, acting again, even in just a reading. This was only the second time I've acted all year, except when I read in a role for an absent actor during a rehearsal I was directing. I am not spending another year only acting in one ten minute play, baby.

Afterwards, Omar and I grabbed some dinner and waited for Cynthia to come in to the city so that we could have our Modern Classics meeting. We are going to have to meet with Le once Country Wife opens and discuss what we would like to do next year.

Of course, the thing is that Omar is desperate to do The Front Page, but there are these mitigating circumstances, like the fact that there are nineteen goddamn men in it, and he needed to be convinced of that fact.

And then there's will Le want to direct one of our shows, and if so, when, not to mention how many slots do we get, three a year or four? And while we're at it, what makes a Modern Classic? Is it a Modern Classic if none of the three of us are in it? It's all very complicated.

When did this happen? When did I suddenly start producing? Just a few minutes ago I was placidly waiting to be cast in things and now I am creating my own projects?

Today's horoscope:
There's a right way and a wrong way to do things. You hate to play the role of enforcer, but you must admit that you're good at it. Read someone the rules in a way that he or she will never forget.

One year ago today:
"I'm not worried about you," she said, "My problem is trying to direct these actors all of whom are at different levels--Brian's been acting for like a year, and you have been for what, ten? Fifteen years?" "Thirty-four." "Shit, how old are you?!"
