(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

30 August

On Wednesday night, when I got home it was just barely starting to rain. As the night wore on, the rain got harder and harder, I actually had to close the windows! Considering how desperately hot it was only last week, that was quite startling.

The rain woke me up yesterday before my alarm, which was the second time this week that happened. Not the rain, just the waking. I was getting up early anyway, because I wanted to get into the office early, I had so much to do, but around 6.30a, I was up and awake.

Unlike the other morning, though, I stayed in bed, dozing and listening to the rain. There isn't alot nicer than being all nice and cozy, knowing how nasty and cold it is outside. Of course, it would have been nicer had I not had to get out of my cozy bed and go out into the rain, but there wasn't much I could do about that.

I left the house at 8.20a, which means that I should have gotten to work at 9a, 9.10a at the latest, considering rush-hour traffic. 9.50a, that's when I got in. And a van pulled up just as I got to the stop, so it wasn't waiting for it, it was sitting in traffic after I got on it. And then it was waiting for the bus when I got into the city, which took absolutely ages.

My God, it was raining. I couldn't even cross the street at 42nd St., there was an ankle or shin-deep lake spreading out ten feet into the intersection--I had to walk halfway up the block to cross. I got to work soaked to the skin, and then had to work that way for hours and hours. Loathsome.

When I got there, at, as I said, ten minutes to ten, I was the first in the whole department to arrive! I figured that I'd beat The Raccoon in, since she lives farther into Jersey than I do, and I knew that one of the other girls would be coming late because it was registration day for her daughter, but I wasn't expecting an empty, echoing section.

The funny thing was, the second person to arrive was the one with the daughter, the other two staggered in hours later. The Raccoon never showed up, but that made sense, since she leaves early on Thursdays anyway, so why bother coming in at noon when you are leaving at 1.30p?

I ended up getting a great deal done, which was gratifying. Usually when The Raccoon is out, I end up getting a thousand phone calls, but it seemed as though the country was slowing down for the upcoming three day weekend.

When I got home, my fountain pen was waiting! I was so thrilled, and it's really nice to write with. But where is my goddamned cell phone? Is my credit so bad that it takes them weeks to figure out whether they want to chance giving me a phone plan at all?
