18 April So yesterday sure was toast-oasty warm! On the Today Show they said that it would hit 95°, which would be a record high for the date, and it might hit 97°, and if it did, why that would be a record high for the month of April! O rapture! I am so lucky to be living here to witness this historic moment in weather. Lucky me, lucky me, I'm doing the lucky me dance. This is, however, the time of year that I love my office with all my heart, my climate-controlled office, not to mention my apartment, my half-underground basement apartment. And I feel so sorry for the poor Callahans with their attic bedroom that holds the heat as though it might soon be tripling in value. On the other hand, they get to have sex with each other on a regular basis, so it's not as though they have anything to complain about. But anyway, hot hot hot yesterday. I went out to get some lunch from the deli at 5p, and I could tell it was really hot, because there were still lots of mashed potatoes left. Usually there is just a smear of crust at that hour, as they have the best mashed potatoes in the city. You know what they do to have such great mashed potatoes? They take some potatoes, and then they mash 'em! No, seriously! It'll sweep the nation now. Anyway, it was so hot that there not only were plenty of mashed potatoes left at 5p, but I didn't even get any, passing them up in favour of the skinny cold noodles and the white tortellini and broccoli that I pick out of the tray with the green tortellini and slices of something that look like mango or something. I always think of You've Got Mail, "That caviar is a garnish!"
So, Chelsea Walls opens on Friday, and I have to see it because Big V is in it, even though it is directed by Ethan Hawke, whom I loathe, so I was spitefully pleased to see this bad review. I have no idea how long the link stays good, but the first paragraph is "Let's get to the point faster than any of the Chelsea Walls characters ever do: The movie is a pretentious, crashing bore." The really interesting part, though, is later, where it says that the film was written by "playwright Nicole Burdette". That would be my freshman year roommate, who still owes me for the phone bill. She was a reasonably nice person, but the whole not paying the last phone bill thing pissed me off. This did not, however, teach me anything, because all of my other college roommates, (except for Kathy Koppett) also ended up owing me for the phone bill. Does this mean that they are bad people or that I am an idiot? Probably both. I was telling this story to Bill at work, and he said, "You know what they say, what goes around, comes around!" "Yep," I answered, "Screw me on the phone bill in 1982 and a mere 19 years later, get a really bad review!" Zan Eisley is another one of those bad phone bill-owing roommates, but she is the reason that I met my ex, Greg, so I forgive her. No bad reviews for you, Zan! Of course, she doesn't so much seem to be working these days, so maybe that's not an issue. After all that, I'm still seeing the thing, because the pull of sexy sexy Vince D'Onofrio is too strong, I cannot resist.
Yesterday was World Hemophilia Day, I hope you found it festive!
Lenten entries missed; Brianna moved her journal, went to the theatre, went on a date, and fell in love. It's sweet to see her so happy, and it's nice to see a cool, fun, sexy chicka who also is sincerely religious.
