(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

7 September

Okay, clearly the aliens don't think that TiVo and the Sims are enough to make me never update again and be less and less able to get any sleep or leave the house or whatever, because now we have a puppy.

"We" being the Callahans, not me, meaning that said puppy isn't residing in my personal house but "we" being the household, "we" meaning that I get to go up and play and cuddle, not walk of potty train or punish. It's like I'm the puppy's grandparent--only fun stuff, no responsibilities.

(ka-boom!)

This has gone back a long way--they have wanted a puppy for a long time, but Cynthia insisted upon waiting for Bonnie to get potty trained first. "I am not potty training a child and a puppy at the same time!" she would cry.

Since Bonnie took until nearly college to get said potty trained ("Bob-Bon, do you want to make on the potty?" "NO! I do not want to make on the potty!!"), it's been a trifle longer getting the puppy than expected. Actually, she's been making on the potty like the great big lumbering girl that she actually is for awhile, but it was only in the past few weeks that they really had the chance to start looking for Stockton.

Yes, the dog is named Stockton. The dog has always been named Stockton. In our house, Stockton is God, and Cynthia decided that she didn't want to do the whole "meet the dog and name it in an appropriate manner" thing, but instead have the name first and find the dog that belongs to that name.

They went to a couple of places last weekend, but couldn't find any puppies that were little enough, because the girls are a little nervous around dogs and Cynthia thought that it would be best to get a little pup and by the time he would grow up, they'd be used to him and not be scared.

Then, yesterday, they went to another place and I waited at work all day to give a reference for them, stating that I was pretty certain that they weren't getting the puppy to eat for dinner or to throw acid on, but I never got a call, so I thought that there wasn't a dog, but when I got home, there one was!

I went upstairs and there was this little beensy puppy sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor, a part golden retriever, part yellow lab, and was so exactly the colour of the yellowish-white linoleum floor that it looked as though she had grown there.

I swear, she looks like she's right out of a puppy-food commercial. And yes, she's a girl, and yes, her name is still Stockton.
