15 November So yesterday I got to work and saw the CEO in a queue with everyone else, and realized that it was flu shot day! Of course I had worn a sweater with sleeves that were hard to roll up, but that was only to be expected. I barely see the point of a flu shot at this point anyway--it's a bit like closing the barn door after the horse has run off, but hey, they are free. And I got a green apple lollypop! I've gotten a weird reaction, though. The spot is sore and red, of course, but it's also hot--there is a hand-sized place on my arm that is measurably hotter than any other part of my arm. Odd, but not painful unless I poke at it.
"Doc, it hurts when I do this!"
We all had lunch together, the department, as a reward for doing something or other--I have forgotten because we've been trying to work out when we were going for so long, what with no-one in the department being capable of making a decision and everything. It was this day, then that day, then I was sick so that week was shot, and finally it was decided for yesterday. Too bad the part-timer was fired before the lunch, as it was for her as well. I wanted to have it at Vynl, because I only ever go to Vynl and it's not far from the office, but I was voted down for two reasons: firstly, the last time we had lunch together we went there and it was full up, and secondly because it is too far. May I make it clear that it is one long block and three short blocks from my office, the equivalent of six blocks, and only one block farther than the place that we always used to go. However, it is too far, too far I say! Their little legs simply snap off if they walked that astounding distance! So we chose another place. I made it perfectly clear that, whatever place we chose, had damned well better be closer than six blocks away or I would raise hell. A place was suggested that was three blocks away. "Are you sure that's not too far? Maybe we should get lunch from the vending machines in the kitchen, is that close enough? Should I carry you?" I might have got a little sarcastic. Anyway, we had the lunch at this perfectly acceptable diner/coffee shop, where they made me hard-boiled eggs without too much convincing, so I was fine. But they don't know what they were missing by not going to Vynl. Fools.
And this is the reason--it's because on those nights you've gone away. On those nights you're in someone else's dream. You're busy in someone else's dream. Some things are just pictures, they're scenes before your eyes. Don't look now. I'm right behind you. -Laurie Anderson
Found this site from Renee, and it seems to be some sort of cheesy psychic bullshit thing, but you know what? This is astonishingly accurate. Or at least it was when I did it originally--right now it's not actually coming up, but really only like one small sentance isn't so entirely on the money that it looks as though I wrote it myself.
