(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

14 November

So I got home last night, and the "Buffy the Musical" tape had arrived!

It's so funny, this episode is so cursed, I know literally five people whose VCRs or TiVos messed up saving it, and I mean entirely, not just missing the eight minute overrun! It's being re-run Friday, but not the long version, those extra eight minutes are gone forever, because they certainly aren't cutting eight minutes of commercials, heaven forfend.

Anyway, I finally got the tape from my Mom, but I had to catch up with a couple of episodes, finishing the one where the geeky evil geniuses tested Buffy, and watching the Hallowe'en episode, and then, finally, it was time for the musical.

Which was so great! No spoilers, (see above about how half of my friends haven't seen it yet), but it rivals my favourite episode ever, "Band Candy" in my affections. People sing to their abilities, Xander being the worst singer, but he can do comic singing great, Tara having a lovely voice, so she got a whole solo song to Willow, who didn't join in at all, giving a clue to Alyson's abilities, Anya having not only a nice voice, but enough of a range to do well in different styles, Spike having a swell rock voice, and Giles, of course, has a stunning voice, since he's the one who's a singer. Go figure.

The surprise for me was Buffy, because I read an interview with Sarah Michelle, who said that she doesn't sing at all, and they were talking about getting her a voice double before she realized that she didn't want someone else to do her big emotional moment of the season. Well, you know what? She has a very nice voice! Very clear and true, like a boy soprano.

The plot was great, the songs were great, the fact that it advanced the story was great, and Spike and Giles had lots of cool stuff to do. I adored it. I adored it so much that about 50 minutes in, I turned it off for ten minutes, because I was enjoying it so much that I wanted to make it last.

And now, and now, I can listed to the cd that Ivee sent me out of the blue! I am so thrilled.

On Monday when I talked to my mother on the phone, she said that I should avoid all coming attractions for last night's episode, because she watched the end of the musical when she taped it, and saw something that she was pretty certain was a surprise, even though she doesn't know anything about the show.

So when I watched the musical, that was the first time that I saw the coming attraction, and that last shot made me scream! It was 12.30a at that point, but I was damn well going to watch the episode I had TiVoed earlier, "Tabula Rosa".

And I could not believe that such a great episode could be immediately after such a great episode! I almost liked it better than the musical (but not quite). It was terribly funny, all that "Leave Randy alone!" and "Joan, wait up!" and "Hey, I'm a superhero, too!" and "I seem to be British..." just slayed me. But it wasn't too light, because the ending was devastating.

Joss, I bow down to you, baby. You are a god who walks as man. Now can you make certain that the new BBC show gets picked up and shown here, please?

Special thanks to Carol and The Anti-Diva for clearing up my whole Little Tiny Ash problem. Turns out it was in Army of Darkness, since I had forgotten that there was a cabin in that movie. Of course there was a cabin! Ash just can't stay away from them!
