(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

11 November

So yesterday I spent eight hours at work. Yes, yesterday was Saturday, why do you ask?

I did not manage to do eight hours of actual work, it took me rather awhile to get started, but I couldn't clock out and work for free because it was the second half of the eight hours where I really worked hard, and I stayed late enough to take a car home and they get suspicious when you take a car after midnight but clocked out at 10p.

I feel a trifle guilty, so I'll probably clock out early and keep working sometime this week.

I brought my computer and watched Insomnia and Evil Dead II.

And yes, perhaps the fact that I watched a movie with subtitles might have had a little something to do with the fact that I didn't get so much work done at first, but I think that I wouldn't have anyway.

Insomnia is a Norwegian film with the lovely Stellan Skarsgård as a Swedish police inspector who goes off to Norway to solve the murder of a high school girl. He is a lonely, isolated man, isolated by the fact that he is foreign and not everyone understands him when he speaks (a subtlety that would be lost on me had they not kept mentioning it), isolated by the insomnia that comes from the summer midnight sun, isolated by the fact that he has no family, and isolated by the terrible thing that he does that he can talk to no-one about, no-one but the murderer.

It's a very moving film. Stellan does some very cold things, he even rejects a little baby kitten, and awkwardly puts the moves on a couple of girls that ends up repulsing and scaring them, but the deep hurt shining out of his eyes makes him a sympathetic character. You want things to work out, but you know that they cannot really, because he is such a broken man.

I watched my lovely Evil Dead II twice, once with the commentary track. This is a fabulous commentary track, because the guys have known each other for so long and they are all terribly funny

I do have a question, though, for you Evil Dead fans out there. Now, I haven't seen the films in awhile, but I know that I remember a scene with a little tiny Ash running around and poking big Ash with a pencil and stuff, but it was not in the movie!

I am certain that it was in II not I, because I didn't have the budget to have a little tiny Ash, plus II is funnier than I and little tiny Ash is more in the flavour of II. And I don't think it's in Army of Darkness, because I remember little tiny Ash as being in the cabin.

Am I remembering this wrong? Jette? Stef? Help!

And speaking of Bruce and Stef, check out this great picture of, well, Bruce and Stef!

By the way, that book, If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor is glorious fun. I got it for myself for my birthday and read it right after JournalCon, I think in about two days, and considering how much time I have to read during the day, that ain't bad.

Have I mentioned that I no longer live with four cats, but instead with four flea-bitten wretches?
