23 May I have been naught, very naught, I know, since my phone was fixed and everything, and yet, here I am, not updating my millions of back entries, but instead playing Quake and making a new mix tape. Naught, indeed.
So, last night was the last SAG screening of the season, though they say that there might be one or two extras coming up, and not to throw our cards away. The film was The Anniversary Party, a film written, directed and starring Alan Cumming and Jennifer Jason Leigh. It is a quite entertaining film, and the performances are quite good, it is especially fun to see Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates playing, well, Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates, and Gwyneth Paltrow plays a pastiche of a starlet, twitting herself in a very amusing manner. Clearly, everyone had a swell time making it, and it's fun to watch, but it's a little actor-y, if you know what I mean. Slightly too many things happen in a 24 hour period, and everybody has their big Oscar moment. Sometimes more than one. It would have been better with maybe three things less happening, but actors writing for themselves tend to want to just pack everything in, like in a sausage casing. A script is like Japanese flower arranging, sometimes what you leave out is what makes it work.
Lenten entries missed: Jackie went out with, well, me, (I'll write that vacation entry someday), discussed her sister's pants, prepared for her Academy Awards speech, and discovered Vanilla Steamers.
