18 July So, Monday I realized that it was the last day to join the SAG Film Society this year before they started requiring cash, so I took a lunch in the middle of the day and went down there and paid my back dues so that I could join, went to the committees office, asked for a form, and was told that they had sold out the previous Friday. Argh!! They never sell out this early! It broke my heart, absolutely, though I am continuing on the trend of only getting in every other year. So, Tracing, no free movies for you this year!
On the other hand, though, a really incredible thing happened this weekend. I was doing a search for my niece, as she's around 20 now and I thought that maybe she'd have some web presence (Nikki Zuckert, if you ever read this, I'd love to hear from you!), so, after looking under her name and coming up with nowt, I tried a search under Zuckert and the town that she's from, and the oddest thing came up, this, and if you scroll about halfway down, you find this: "Lawrence, Jerome and Lee, R.E. The Gang’s All Here A play. (2.95) Cleveland: World Publishing 1960. 1st edition. Inscribed by both authors to Bill (Zuckert), member of the cast. NF HB with brown cloth cover. DW browned on spine. 175" Well now, my Da was in that play on Broadway, so this is his copy! I have absolutely no idea of how it came to be in a rare book shop, but there it is. I rang them immediately and asked about it, since the page it was on has disappeared and only the cache remains (thanks, Google!), I feared that the book might have been sold, but they still have it, and even agreed to put it aside for me for two weeks, until I can scrape together $175. So, if I have to choose to miss out on something, I'd rather miss out on the SAG Film Society, frankly.
And happy birthday, Beth! Not to mention Shae, though I wouldn't have known had Beth not mentioned it in her entry. As I told Shae, who hasn't updated in weeks, if you are not whoring your birthday to within an inch of its life, you are no journaller. Hey, mine's on 23rd August! What do you know about that!
Extry-special thanks to Stef, who is hosting this entry until I get more disk space at sweetasabiscuit. What a swell gal!
