8 July Spent the day in the darkroom yesterday, getting the last of the Haddonfield prints done. It finally occurred to me that when you do publicity shots, perhaps when you don't want is borders, so I used a borderless easel for the first time. It's weird, using something new in something that I have been doing for so long that I cannot imagine anything new. I used borders for one shot that needed to be full-frame. Can someone please tell me whose idea it was to make negatives and paper different sizes? You know, so that you can't put the whole shot on the whole piece of paper? I like framing in the camera, I don't like being forced to trim by these random paper sizes. It's like the whole hot dog and bun packages thing.
Afterwards I went home for rehearsal that I was late for. When I realized that I had to go into the darkroom, I wanted to push the rehearsal back so that I wouldn't be late, but Cynthia didn't want to so that she and Fran could go out, though I didn't see what difference an hour would make, I just decided to get to the darkroom an hour earlier. Instead, I got to the darkroom exactly on time. By trying to get there an hour early, I got there on time, but since I usually get there about 45 minutes late, I suppose that was early, then. The best part was that rehearsal was over around 7p or so, and they didn't go out until 11p. "Why couldn't we have started later when you weren't even going out for four hours?" "But that's how long it takes us to get ready to go out, and we only just made it for last call and had two drinks, just imagine how much later we would have gone out if rehearsal had started at 6p!" I suppose that makes an odd kind of sense...
