5 July I barely feel as though I had a day off, because, besides the rehearsal that I had in the early afternoon, I just sat in front of the box, barely moving. There was a concert at Maxwell's, Southern Culture on the Skids was playing, and I did want to see them, but they weren't starting until 10.30p, and by then is was pouring rain, and I just thought, forget it. I'm going to turn into that Stephen King beer monster that never moves. You know, except that I don't drink beer. I'll be the Pepsi monster.
I've been watching the reruns of Buffy and Angel that I didn't watch last season, I've decided to give up on watching them in order, but just watch them how they are coming out in the reruns, which means that I am completely confused by Angel. I kept thinking, what's going on? Why doesn't anyone like Angel anymore? Why is Wesley in a wheelchair? And who is his girlfriend? Who the hell is that blonde vampire? Why did Angel leave all of those people to die? And when in God's name did Cordy get that appalling haircut? Ah well, it will all come clear in time, I'm certain. Buffy is rerunning twice a week, the Sunday shows are from the beginning of the season, and the Wednesday shows are from later in the season, so I'm getting it from two angles at once, but I did hear about the season as the season went on, so it's not as confusing as Angel. The show from last night was "The Body", the once where Joyce dies, which may be one of the greatest single episodes of any series that I have ever seen in my life. I guarantee you that Joss has had a parent die, it isn't possible that he could write and direct that episode the way it was written and directed purely from his imagination. I mean, he got it, he really got it down. You know, except for the vampire rising in the morgue at the end, but that is part of the universe of the show, and of course it fit, but that bit didn't happen to me, as such. Anya's monologue was the best part. Because of course we all think, how can this be, how can this possibly happen, but she, not being human, was able to articulate it in a way that was so raw that I could barely stand to listen to it. I could barely stand to listen to it so much that I rewound it and listened to it twice. I think the best part was how everything that one person goes through was spread out between all of the characters, Xander putting his fist through the wall, Willow changing clothes over and over, Buffy's near catatonia. It was incredible.
The rehearsal went well, being the first time that we had the whole cast together, and I think that it is going to go extremely well. Greta, who plays the most beautiful goddess alive, I gave one small direction to, and all was golden, I'm not going to have any problems with her. Anita needs to be stronger so that she can control Cynthia's character without her having to make herself weaker. Cynthia's character is so weird, and I must restrain myself from trying to make her do it the way I did it, but let her find her own way. The guy is another thing, as a person he is very laid back and charming and flirty and he cannot do the role that way or the whole show will fall apart. I need to try to inch him closer to being Fred.
