(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

18 January

So, we have a satellite dish now!

The other week, Cynthia asked if I were interested, because our cable (which is already $90 a month) is about to go up, and if we got a dish it would cost us $150 each for the dish and the installation and then only about $5 a month more for about five or six times the channels or so, including some channels that I have always wanted, like BBC America and TV Land and the Sundance Channel and MTV2, along with about a shnillion movie channels.

Or actually thirty-three. Which is more or less the same thing.

We are not getting the basketball package, but considering all of the Fox Sports channels that we get with the package, we will get to see alot more Jazz games than the three or four this season that are playing on TNT.

So I said yeah, let's do it, because there was some sort of a sale going on with DirecTV. The Raccoon said, "Hey, I thought that you weren't buying anything this year!" and I protested that it didn't count. I still think that it doesn't count, but I do think that it's funny that it's only January and I've already bought plane tickets and a satellite dish. Though I haven't personally paid for any of it yet, I eventually will.

So yesterday the guy was going to come in the afternoon and I was going to shovel out a path to the TV in my bedroom before I left for work, but then he came in the morning! Is this the only time in history that a cable/dish/repair guy came several hours early rather than hugely late or not at all?

I quickly hacked a trail through the underbrush of clothing on my bedroom floor and took the 200 videotapes off of on top of my living room TV, then toddled off to work.

Some hours later I called home, and he was still there, Cynthia said that the realization, when it hit him, that this was indeed a four story house with a TVs on the top and bottom floors, and that it would be all about stairs for him all day, was palpable to behold.

I didn't get home until midnight, but stayed up until 2a playing with it. I never want to leave the house again. I programmed all of the channels that I want to skip and checked out all of the music channels--there are like 30, it's like radio for the TV with this really narrow programming, like 70's or Bluegrass, and just could barely tear myself away to go to bed.

I wonder how long it will take for me to complain that there is nothing to watch!

I also dreamt that on the porch was a bright pink rabbit that, if you petted him, no matter how lightly, hunks of his body would fall off.
