(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

12 January

Sorry this didn't go up in time, but it was right before I had to leave the house yesterday and I had gotten up at 9.30a instead of 8a (much snoozing) and my computer crashed and I re-started it and it crashed again, and I thought that it would be nice not to be twenty minutes late to work again like I have been every single day since my vacation, so I just went to work.

I know that you are thinking "What's the big deal? She has been so erratic lately, who cares?" Well, that was on my vacation, when I was a couple of days behind and posted at terribly odd hours, and then I got a day behind last weekend, but this was different, this was the mechanical world rising up to thwart me.

"Constant crashing
Has always been..."

Milo insists upon laying his head on the back of my hand as I type this. The fact that the hand keeps moving doesn't stop him, he just keeps laying it back down--all my hand has to do is be still for a minimum of 1/8 of a second and it's back down there again.

It was sweet for a minute or two, but now, his little surprised act every time I have to move my hand to get to the shift key or something is getting kind of old. He's like a kid insisting on sitting on his Mom's lap, even though she keeps having to stand up. Actually, he's just like a cat insisting on sitting on his Mom's lap, even though she keeps having to stand up, as this is also a phenomenon that is not unknown in my household.

So, I had my first rehearsal last night.

I had to meet four actors out at the van and bring them home with me. It was like a school trip or something. "Everybody have their buddy?" I had all but one actor there, since the other one who couldn't make it was able to rearrange her schedule.

The reading went pretty well, actually, though it occurred to me about halfway through that this play will have to be all about wigs, since it's about a group of hippies in 1971, and I have three short-haired boys and one short-haired woman. The other three girls have nice long hippie hair, two of them even have curly rock-star hair, but the boys...

Of course, Fran had incredibly long hair all last year because he just never bothered to have it cut, he finally cut it short before Xmas, and then two weeks later is cast as a hippie. Sigh. And he is the leading man, so I don't much want him in a wig. He'll grow a beard, and that'll help. Rolf and Ronnie, though, are going to be wigged whether they like it or not.

I must say that with all of my heart I believe that the new Pillsbury Toaster Bagel Shop Pastries are the work of Satan.
