(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

17 February

I had so much to do yesterday, and I cannot stay late for weeks and weeks, but then I realized that it was Friday night, and fuck this shit!

It was pouring, pissing and a third thing starting with the letter p and ending with ing down rain, so I was able to do a thing that has never been seen before at the Sony Lincoln Centre at 10.15p on a Friday night, which is get a ticket for the 10.10p show.

What's next, a rain of frogs?

Because I was late, there is only one trailer for Rate-a-Trailer™, but it's a biggie.

1. Lord of the Rings

Over images of magic and hobbits and wizards and bullshit, come the words "The Fellowship of the Ring-Christmas 2001, The Two Towers-Christmas 2002, The Return of the King-Christmas 2003" and all I could think was, my next three Christmases just went to shit. Have you guessed that I am no Tolkien fan? On the other hand, Peter Jackson I adore, so maybe they won't make me want to throw myself into an electric fan, but one doubts it.

The movie was 13 Days and it kicked ass.

Now, I am a Kevin Costner fan from way back and Waterworld is one of my favourite movies and I do not want to hear one damn word about that, do you understand me?

Anyway, though I love Kevin with all my heart, I do realize that accents are not exactly his forte, and the first time he opened his mouth and this big flat ol' Kennedy accent came out, my heart sank. He actually gives a good performance, if you are paying attention, but the accent and the fact that he raised his voice a tone meant that he sounded somewhat unnatural. Once I got used to it, though, it wasn't so distracting.

However, Bruce Greenwood, who played JFK and Steven Culp who played RFK were astounding. Who are these guys? Why don't I know them? And, more important, why isn't Bruce Greenwood a big fucking star, because he's got the looks and he's got the talent and he rocks my world.

The supporting players, particularly the always reliable Dylan Baker, were all fine, and the story was really exciting, even knowing that the world wasn't actually blown up in 1962. Sorry for not warning you about that spoiler.

Anyway, it was a swell way to spend a rainy Friday night in February, watching good men try like hell to make the right decision, trying not to fall.

Why do I keep thinking that chartreuse is purple? It's green, for heaven's sake, why can't I remember? Well, it sounds purple.
