19 December So yesterday, my first full day in LA was spent on my hair. Which is only as it should be. I was going to the hairdresser to get the non-bleached portions of my hair bleached out and then having the pink put on nicely and neatly, as opposed to the slap-dash way that I usually do it. But first I had to go and find the dye, Special Effects Atomic Pink, since Ricky's was out of it in NY, but how hard could it be to find in LA? Hours on the phone, and going to Kinko's to check it on the internet, that's how hard it could be. Nobody carries Special Effects, and nobody particularly wants to recommend a competitor who does, but finally I called a place at Universal CityWalk that was able to recommend another place at Universal CityWalk, so I called and said for the 20th time, "Do you carry Special Effects?" "Yes we do." "Thank you, Jesus!" I had Mom drive me over so that I didn't have to pay the usurious (?) parking fees, and went to the fine fine store, Hot Topic, that sells not only my hair dye, but also cool Nightmare Before Christmas items. The counter girl looked at me as I walked through the door and said, "Hair dye?" "Good eye!" I answered.
Then we went to the hairdresser, who bleached out half of my hair, which looked totally neat, all edged in pink, then dyed my hair about six hairs at a time. She also dyed half my forehead, but so do I when I dye it myself--it's almost impossible not to. She was also a good deal less insane than she tends to be at time, which was a Christmas treat. And it didn't take five hours like it did last year!
After pinkifying my hair to its most pinky pinkness, Mom and I watched "The Body" episode of Buffy, possibly the greatest hour of episodic television ever produced, and I swear, it was like watching it with Anya, she just kept asking all of the wrong questions.
"Why did he put his fist through the wall?"
It was very infuriating! She was watching the edges and not the heart. Plus she fell asleep a couple of times, but she does that with shows she likes, too, she just falls asleep every time she sits in that chair.
