13 December Remember this? Well, last night they turned on the heat. My Christ, did they ever. I walked into the theatre and my eyelashes started frizzing with the heat, it was like a blast furnace. To say that it was 85° in the theatre and the dressing room is no exaggeration. I dreaded putting on that warm, bundled winter costume. The other less than wonderful thing was the dressing room situation. There are two dressing rooms, a vast expanse of space and a tiny closet. We officially have the tiny closet, but last week there wasn't anyone in the vast expanse of space so we spread out into it. I have my Spot in the little room, but I didn't mind that it was really only me and Kelly and Brian the Cop in there. This week, we have one less person (Tracy) and seven more, for a net gain of six more actors than last week. You know what's coming, don't you? You must, you would be sadly slow if you didn't. Yes, this week there is another cast in the vast expanse of space, and they are extremely annoyed by the fact that we have to walk through their vast expanse of space to get to the bathroom, or to the exit door. "Are they going to keep walking through here all the time?" we hear them mutter. Well, yes, bitches. So there we were, shoehorned into the smallest space imaginable, and it's similar to being in a kiln of some kind (though if you crowd the pottery, it explodes!) and we are doing a Christmas show. Also, we were missing an actor, since Gemma was caught in traffic. It was certainly an interesting start to the second week.
Out on that stage, I thought I'd die, I couldn't wait to get rid of the blanket. O yeah, and there was audience on only one side! The theatre is set up oddly, with audience on two sides, facing each other, not quite in the round, but shows are blocked similarly. Well, Beverly, the director of one of the new shows this week, was standing in the lobby, telling everyone to sit on only one side, which meant that we had to sort of re-block the show as we were playing it, which was a pain. Though one of my re-blocks was moving the invisible window that I had to look out of, and I suddenly realized that I was standing in front of the blasting air conditioner, which was lovely. Only standing right there did it help at all, and it was a lovely ten seconds on the stage. The show weirdly went well, even with the heat, the dressing room, the fact that Gemma got there about ten minutes before we went onstage, it didn't rock us, or rather me, I have no idea what happened with the others. I am completely self-centred in this show, it's about me and nothing can change that. Which is good, I think, because being the strongest personality and being this laserbeam that cannot be distracted, I can drag the show along with me.
Tracing was there, and she gave me one of the best compliments on my acting that I have ever had.
"I knew how hot I was, but I didn't realize until close to the end how hot you guys must have been."
