(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

21 April

So on Wednesday I finally started rehearsing Show #2 with Winni after all these comical errors where she would email me to ask if I were free on a day, I would email back to say that I was not, but I was free on these days instead, and then, days later, perhaps on the very day that I said I was free, I'd get another email, and it would all start over again.

For Wednesday she emailed on Monday and asked if I could rehearse on Wednesday at her house at 7.30p, so I answered yes, that Wednesday was fine, but that I couldn't make 7.30p. it would have to be 8p, and where was her house again?

On Wednesday afternoon I realized that I couldn't wait for Winni to get back to me in Winni time, so I called and left a message saying that I couldn't make 7.30p. it would have to be 8p, and where was her house again?

I didn't hear back so I just found her address on a contact sheet and showed up at 8p (or probably a little after, seeing as it's me), just as she had given up on me and was going out the door, because my email never arrived and when she got home someone was waiting for her to rehearse and she didn't check her messages!

Now, I'm as calm about not rehearsing as you can get, but since we open in a week and a half, I really think that it is time to start, so I'm glad we didn't miss each other.

And it ended up being really great! She at first was all pointy-eyed about my not being off-book, but honestly, I'm not gonna be off-book for the first rehearsal no matter how late it is, and I read it the first time, and she loved it, and gave me one little direction, and then it all fell together.

This is one of those breezes, you know? It's so well-written that you'd have to be a real piece of flint not to be able to do it well, and Winni's one direction (to slow down and not be so confident, if you must know) was the one thing that I needed to really make it click.

The other show won't be as good and I won't be as good, but we are all working so much harder because of the difference in the quality of the piece.

When you have a long speech where you have like eleven sentences that are all free-standing and don't hang together and you have to make them sound like all one thing by the sheer force of your will, that's alot harder, and when everyone has at least two of these speeches and the lead has like six, it's like bench pressing 300 lbs, strain strain strain strain ARGH! And then again. And then again.

I think it will take me ten minutes, if that long to learn Women of the Wild West. I may take forever to learn Thingy of the Inconvenience Thingy Show Title That I Can Never Remember in One Act.

Lenten Entries missed:

Nancy Firedrake had a glorious photo, got some photos in a magazine and went completely insane and stalked a van. Bet she scared the shit out of them, too!
