Have I mentioned the fact that I am directing a new show? No? This may be because I forgot about it.

Le sent me the script ages ago, early September or something, because he was going on holiday and wanted to get the scripts out beforehand. Well, this was when I was in the middle of the movie, and I knew that I wouldn't be able to spend one second on it until it was over. But when it was over, I had pretty much forgotten than I had a show to direct.

Well, not entirely, it was sort of in the back of my mind, but just sort of a vague "Gee, don't I have a script somewhere that I should look at?" way, that was immediately distracted by some sort of shiny object of some kind, or "Hey, candy!"

Well, the other day I really realized that not only did I have a show to direct, but that the dates are 7, 8, and 9 of November, i.e. three weeks from now! Or rather less than that now.

So I got on the phone and I called my seven actors. And right away, four couldn't do it. And I had to call Le and admit that I had waited a month before calling my actors, because some of them certainly would have been available had they gotten the dates earlier. So I called and I apologized and I got some more names and called them.

Right now I've got a woman who needs to see the script (which is against Company policy, the way its done is you come to the first readthrough and make your decision then, because reading a script out loud with actors is a whole different thing than reading it in your head at your house, but she's cast in the lead and time is short, so if she doesn't think that she can do it, I don't want to waste either of our time) and I have tried to fax it to her five times already, but her fax machine and mine don't like each other.

I've got another woman who wanted me to tell her how many lines she had, and when I told her that she didn't speak at all for the first thirteen pages, she was thrilled and took the role! So that's one.

Unfortunately, there are six more to go. And less than three weeks before opening. Argh.
