(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

24 March

Do you know what I'm doing right now this very second?

I'm dying my hair. Proof that I have become the laziest person alive, I couldn't be bothered to dye it last night and am doing it before work instead. Of course, I didn't get home from work until 11p, but I didn't go to sleep for a couple of hours, I could have dyed it then. But I am a great lazy blancmange, you see...

Heavenly day.

I've used the same dye formula for simply centuries, but I cannot find the bit of paper that it's written on, so I improvised. I mean, there are only four colours in it, I know which is the main colour (1 1/2 oz of 6RU) and which is the top colour (two big squirts of 93) and the other two colours are 1/2 oz and 1/4 respectively, but I couldn't remember which is which, so I improvised.

Now, for you natural types out there who don't dye their hair, here's how you do it. You mix the dye, put it on your roots for half an hour, then comb it through and put the rest on the rest of your hair and leave it there for fifteen minutes, then wash it off.

When you leave the dye on your head for half an hour, the dye develops and changes colour, starting out very light and ending up dark red, closer to the colour that your hair will be. Also, the dye left in the bottle develops and changes colour, starting out very light and ending up dark red, closer to the colour that your hair will be. Well, when I went back into the bathroom, and started dumping the rest of the dye on my head, it wasn't a dark coppery red, but instead it was bright purple.

"Hmm," I thought, "It's not as though I can stop now, but I wonder what the hell colour my hair will be?" Because it wasn't a light lavender or something, it was purple as a king's robes.

Now, my dye is always a trifle on the purple side, because the more purply-red it is, the slower it fades to straw-red, my "I don't dye my hair often enough" inbetween colour. But it rarely looks like a clown's wig.

Okay, I just rinsed it, and it's not so purple after all. In fact, it's an almost perfect red, a bit brighter than usual, the colour that I wish it was every day rather than just the first two days after dying it. And a good thing, too--not that having purple hair would really break my heart, but it wouldn't really work in my Moliere that's opening tonight!

I wonder where all that purple came from? I'll bet that I just hadn't washed the bottle out properly from the last time!

Sometimes I find it astonishing that I am as normal as I am, since a musical comedy childhood makes freaks of us all.
